The Houston Astros will travel to Angel Stadium in Los Angeles, California, to take on the Los Angeles Angels in what will be a 3-game set beginning on Friday at 10:07 pm EST. The Astros continue to occupy 1st place within the AL West division while the Mariners have fallen to 3rd place behind the Oakland Athletics. In their last outing, the Angels would drop game 1 of a 2-game road interleague set to the Arizona Diamondbacks on 8-21-2018 by a 5-4 score to where the D’backs would cash in on the money line while the over was the play with total runs being set at 7.5 runs. Felix Pena would get the ND for the Angels as he would pitch 6 innings while allowing 4 runs on 7 hits, 1 homer and 12 k’s with an ERA of 4.53 for the game while Patrick Corbin would also get the ND for the home team as he would last 6 innings while allowing 2 runs on 5 hits and 8 strikeouts for a 3.17 ERA. They would cash in on the money line (-140) while the under was the play with runs being set at 8.5 for the game. Houston Astros 's Latest Performance :
The Houston Astros have lost 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 2-2-1. Recently, after tying a 2-game home set versus the Colorado Rockies on 8-15-2018, the Astros would go on to lose a 3-game road set versus the Oakland A’s on 8-19-2018. After losing the opener of a 3-game road set versus the Mariners by a 7-4 score, the Astros would take game to by a 3-2 score to tie the series.
Jose Altuve (.327 BA on 410 AB), Carlos Correa (.257 BA on 304 AB), and Alex Bregman (.280 BA on 472 AB) has spearheaded the Astros offense throughout the year. George Springer (.249 BA on 437 AB) has also been a solid contributor for the Astros at the plate.
Charlie Morton (12-3) has been consistent this year for Houston pitching 137.1 innings while allowing only 47 runs on 104 hits, 14 homers, 54 walks, and 171 strikeouts with an ERA of 2.78 while Justin Verlander (12-8) has pitched 164.1 innings thus far while allowing 49 runs on 122 hits, 23 homers, 28 walks, and 2017 strikeouts with an ERA of 2.65. Lance McCullers (10-6) has also been solid as he has pitched 126 innings while allowing 60 runs on 100 hits, 12 homers, 50 walks, 138 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.93.
Los Angeles Angels's Latest Performance :
The Angels come into this game losers of 4 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 3-2. After sweeping a 3-game road set versus the San Diego Padres on 8-15-2018, the Angels would go on to lose a 4-game road set versus the Rangers on 8-19-2018. Of course, their inconsistent play would rear its head in game 1 of a 2-game road set versus Arizona as they would drop the opener by a 5-4 score.
Andrelton Simmons (.299 BA on 432 AB), Mike Trout (.309 BA on 372 AB), and Albert Pujols (.253 BA on 447) have been the offensive leaders for the Angels offense this season. Justin Upton (.267 BA on 454 AB) has also been very consistent contributor to the offense as el this season.
Tyler Skaggs (8-8) has pitched 116.2 innings while allowing 53 runs on 118 hits 12 homers, 35 walks, and 123 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.78.
How Houston Astros & Los Angeles Angels Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
For the season, the Astros are 72-64 ATS while the O/U is 54-65-7. On the other hand, the Angels are 59-68 ATS while the O/U is 56-64-7.
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
No pitchers have been assigned for this 3-game set, however, much is riding on this series in that the Astros have found themselves in a tie with the red-hot Oakland A’s for the top spot in the division. With that being said, they are desperately in need of a win over an Angels team that has been up and down lately in losing 8 of their last 11 games, yet, winning 2 of their last 3 outings. The series matchup this season has been very much even as the Astros would take 5 of the last 9 matchups, however, they will certainly be looking to set the pace early in this series as winning is very much imperative at this point. The Mariners, roughly 9 games out of the top spot, have much to play for as well in that they will be looking to string together some wins while hoping the top 2 teams somehow hit a rough patch.
Totals Selection: Pick: Games, 1, 2, & 3: Under
My reason for the prediction :
The Under has been 6-2-1 in the last 9 meetings amongst these two AL West squads while also being the play in 9 of the last 14 games for the Astros. Furthermore, the under has been the result in 4 of the last 5 home games for the Angels. This, along with the Angels and Astros both being inconsistent at the plate recently, allows me to conclude that the under would certainly be the mantra for this particular series.
