New York Yankees vs Baltimore Orioles

The Orioles will welcome the Yankees to Oriole Park as the teams from the AL East will go head to head in a three-game series starting on Friday. The Orioles are in the last place of the division while the Yankees are in second place. This will be their 5th meeting of the season, the season series is tied at 2-2.

Game 1-2: 7:05 PM ET

Game 3: 8:08 PM ET

New York Yankees's Latest Performance :

The Yankees will cap off their five-game road trip against the Orioles. The Yankees are sitting on top of the Wild Card standings with a 3 1/2 lead over the second place A’s. The Yankees have a hard time matching up against the O’s but this was prior to the trades that they made before the deadline. This time around things should be a lot easier. The Yankees are 34-26 when playing on the road this season. Coming into this series the Yankees are 5th in pitching with a 3.69 ERA and second in batting with 649 runs scored this season.

Player to watch in this series: Miguel Andujar, he singled and had a go-ahead sac fly in the 12th as the Yankees edged the Marlins 2-1 on Tuesday. His sacrifice fly gave him 20 RBI in 20 games this month. He is the front-runner for the rookie of the year. On the season he is hitting .297/.328/.526 with 20 homers and 66 RBIs. I expect him to play well against the O’s as his batting numbers will keep going up.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Giancarlo Stanton (80)
  • Homers: Giancarlo Stanton (32)
  • Batting Average: Miguel Andujar (.297)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: CC Sabathia, he will be making his return from the DL after recovering from a knee injury to start on Friday against the Orioles. He has a 7-4 record, 3.32 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 106/41 K/BB ratio in 119 1/3 innings in 22 starts this season.

Game 2: Luis Cessa, he allowed five runs in 3 1/3 innings and was charged with a loss to the Rays on Wednesday. He faces a tough Yankees team on Saturday. He is 1-3 on the year with a 5.60 ERA and 1.46 WHIP.

Game 3: J.A. Happ, he struck out eight and held the Blue Jays to two runs over 5 1/3 innings of work in the Yankees’ 10-2 victory on Sunday. He will close things out for the Yankees against the O’s in the rubber game on Sunday. He is 4-0 pitching for the Yankees.

Baltimore Orioles's Latest Performance :

The Orioles will be back at Orioles Park for a six-game homestand beginning on Friday. The homestand opens with a three-game series against the Yankees. The Orioles have the worst record in the Majors with 37 wins on the year. It was clear what the O’s wanted to do trading all their good batters to contenders. The O’s are hoping for a better future because nothing seems to be working for them at all this season. Coming into this series the O’s are 28th in batting with 488 runs scored and 29th in pitching with a 5.11 ERA.

Player to watch in this series: Cedric Mullins, he struck a solo homer against the Blue Jays in his last outing. It’s the rookie’s second home run over his first 11 games and he’s batting .333/.409/.615 early on in his big league career. Mullins is the first player in franchise history with three hits in his major league debut. He could surprise the Yankees pitchers when he steps up to the plate.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Adam Jones (49)
  • Homers: Trey Mancini (17)
  • Batting Average: Adam Jones (.283)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Alex Cobb, he is coming off a complete game in his last outing allowing two runs in a win over the Indians on Saturday. He lowered his ERA to 5.09, he will be making his start in the series opener against the Yankees on Friday.

Game 2: Jimmy Yacabonis, he will make his return to the Majors to start on Saturday against the Yankees. In his last start in the Majors, he allowed three runs in 4 2/3 innings against the Red Sox.

Game 3: Dylan Bundy, he will be looking to redeem himself in the rubber game against the Yankees. In his last start, he allowed seven runs over four-plus innings in a loss to the Blue Jays. He is 7-11 on the season with a 4.99 ERA and 1.34 WHIP.

Against The Spread Selection: New York Yankees

My reason for the pick :

The Yankees will be at their best as they will sweep the O’s this time around the Yankees have a much better team than the O’s and are starting to heat up once again on the plate becoming the second best batting team in the Majors just behind their rivals the Red Sox. The Yankees have the third-youngest lineup in the league, they have the best bullpen in the league. The Yankees should cruize through without any problem.

The Yankees to sweep the Orioles on the road 3-0.
