Game 1 of a 3-game set between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Milwaukee Brewers will take place at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Friday night beginning at 8:10 pm EST.  The Pirates are in 4th place within the NL Central division while the Brewers continue to occupy 3rd place with the division.  In their last outing, the Brewers would be tied in a 3-game set versus the Cincinnati Reds as they would drop game 2 by a 9-7 score on 8-21-2018.  The Reds would cash in on the money line as huge underdogs (+180) while the over was the play with the total being set at 9 runs for the game.  Junior Guerra would get the no decision as he would pitch 5.1 innings while allowing 7 runs on 10 hits along with 6 k’s with an ERA of 3.72 for the game while Sal Romano would also get the ND as he would also pitch 5 innings while allowing 5 runs on 7 hits, 1 homer, and 5 k’s with an ERA of 5.46.  Orlando Arcia would go 2-4 with 2 RBI’s in the loss for the Brewers while Jonathan Schoop and Travis Shaw would each go 1-4 with a combined 2 RBI’s.  Billy Hamilton, Scooter Gennett, and Phillip Ervin would each had 2 hits in the win for the Reds with a combined 4 RBI’s.  The loss halted a 2-game winning streak for the Brew Crew.

Pittsburgh Pirates's Latest Performance :

The Pirates have lost 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 0-5.  After being swept in a 3-game road set versus the Minnesota Twins on 8-15-2018, the Pirates would tie a 4-game home set versus the Chicago Cubs on 8-19-2018.  They would, however, lose the first 2 games of a 3-game home set to the Atlanta Braves with game 2 being a 6-1 defeat.

Corey Dickerson (.307 BA on 410 AB), Francisco Cervelli (.258 BA on 248 AB), Starling Marte (.272 BA on 427 AB), and Colin Moran (.267 BA on 337 AB) have been the most consistent hitters in the lineup for the Pirates this year.  Jordy Mercer (.262 BA on 355 AB) and Josh Bell (.262 BA on 400 AB) have also been solid for Pittsburgh this year at the plate.

Trevor Williams (10-9, 130 IP, 56 R, 116 H, 14 HR, 43 BB, 86 SO, 3.53 ERA) and Ivan Nova (7-8, 137 IP, 70 R, 147 H, 22 HR, 27 BB, 95 SO, 4.20 ERA) have shined on the mound for the Pirates, at times, this year.

Milwaukee Brewers's Latest Performance :

The Brewers have lost 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 2-3.  They would recently tie a 2-game road set versus the Chicago Cubs on 8-15-2018 while falling to the St. Louis Cardinals in a 3-game road set on 8-19-2018.  They would win the opener of a 3-game home set versus the Reds by a 5-2 score, but, would fall in game 2 by a 9-7 score.

Lorenzo Cain (.303 BA on 412 AB), Ryan Braun (.256 BA on 305 AB), Travis Shaw (.246 BA on 410 AB), and Christian Yelich (.308 BA on 445 AB) have been the most consistent offensive weapons for the Brewers this season.

Jhoulys Chacin (13-4, 145 IP, 65 R, 118 H, 14 HR, 55 BB, 119 SO, 3.58 ERA) has been a bright spot for this Brewer pitching staff this season.  Chase Anderson (8-7) has also been instrumental for the Brewers this season as he has pitched 129.1 innings while allowing 59 runs on 105 hits, 24 homers, 50 walks, and 104 strikeouts for the season with an ERA of 3.92.

How Pittsburgh Pirates & Milwaukee Brewers Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

For the season, the Pirates are 61-66 ATS while the O/U is 59-61-7.  On the other hand, the Brewers are 68-60 ATS while the O/U is 61-64-3.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

No pitchers have been assigned for this matchup for either team, however, it is true that the Brewers have slowed down lately and have even fallen from the number 2 slot within the NL Central to number 3, primarily due to the Cardinals playing so well as of late.  This will certainly be an important series for Milwaukee as they not only could use some wins in which to stay relevant within the division, but, they have not had much success against the Pirates this year (lost 8 of their last 10) and will certainly be looking to figure them out in this set in which to accomplish this goal.  The Pirates also took a set earlier at Miller Park on 5-6-2018, and will be looking for the same, or better, results this time.

Totals Selection: Pick: Games 1, 2, & 3: Under

My reason for the prediction :

I will side with the under for much of this series in that it has not only been the play in 4 of the last 7 games for the Brewers, but, has also been the result in the last 6 games for the Pirates.  The Brewers, despite their recent failures against the Pirates, may be getting them at the right time as their lineup has only plated 19 runs in their last 10 games.  On the other hand, one could also make a case that the Pirates will have a breakout game, offensively, in that the Brewers pitching staff has given up 32 runs in their last 6 outings; However, I expect the Brewers to stiffen up a bit in which to keep this series manageable from a run standpoint, since they are averaging only 3.6 runs in their last 6 games.

Betting trends for Pittsburgh Pirates:

    • The Pirates are 2-7 in last 9 games
    • The Pirates are 9-6 in last 15 road games
    • The Under is 6-4 in Pirates last 10 road games

Betting trends for Milwaukee Brewers:

    • The Brewers are 4-6 in last 10 games
    • The Brewers are 13-8 in last 21 home games
    • The Over is 6-1 in Brewers last 7 home games
