Washington Nationals's Latest Performance :
The Nationals will begin their six-game road trip against the Mets. The Nationals is now 5 1/2 games back of the Phillies but still 7 1/2 games behind the first-place Braves. They remain confident they can compete in the Nationals Leauge East despite the trades beating the Phillies at home in the series opener is a good sign. The Nationals are a team with youth and experience mixed together. The Nationals bullpen has kept them in the playoffs hunt closing out games when needed. Playing against the Mets on the road will allow them to cut into the gap as they make a run for the last playoffs spot. Coming into this series the Nationals are 14th in pitching with a 3.92 ERA and 12th in batting with 582 runs scored this season.
Player to watch in this series: Bryce Harper, he only has one thing on his mind at the moment is do all he can to put the Nationals into the postseason. The Nationals have no plans of trading him because they have bigger plans in play and with the resurgence of Soto this season the Nationals future looks bright. Making the postseason will only be plus for the Nationals. On the season Bryce is slashing .248/.381/.512 with 30 homers and 80 RBIs on the season. I expect him to have a great series against the Mets on the road.
- RBIs: Bryce Harper (80)
- Homers: Bryce Harper (30)
- Batting Average: Anthony Rendon (.293)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Gio Gonzalez, he allowed eight runs in 4 2/3 innings against the Marlins in a loss on Sunday. He is 7-10 on the season with a 4.51 ERA and 1.55 WHIP. He will look to redeem himself on the mound on Friday against the Mets.
Game 2: Tommy Milone, he will make his return from the DL after dealing with shoulder soreness. He has a 5.81 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in four starts.
Game 3: Stephen Strasburg, he will close things out for the Nationals against the Mets on Sunday. He is returning from a neck injury. He is 6-7 on the season with a 3.90 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and a 101/21 K/BB ratio.
New York Mets's Latest Performance :
The Mets will cap off their six-game homestand against the Nationals in a three-game set. The Mets are 25-38 when playing at home this season they find themselves in fourth place of the NL East division. The Mets are out of playoffs contentions as they are 13 1/2 games back of the Wild Card spot it will be tough for them to make up some ground this late into the season. The Mets have to start focusing on next season and hope that things will look up for them. Coming into this series the Mets are 21st in batting with 529 runs scored this season and 19th in pitching with a 4.26 ERA.
Player to watch in this series: Michael Conforto, he picked up four RBIs in his last outing against the Giants he struck a three-run homer and a sac fly in the Mets’ 6-3 win. It was his fourth homer in his last 11 games. He’s hitting .311 with seven homers and 24 RBI in his last 32 games. I expect him to be a factor against the Nationals at home.
- RBIs: Michael Conforto (51)
- Homers: Michael Conforto (18)
- Batting Average: Brandon Nimmo (.265)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Jason Vargas, he allowed two runs on six hits over 5 1/3 innings in a win against the Phillies. It was his third win of the season. He has a 7.67 ERA and 1.72 WHIP he will be making his start in the series opener against the Nationals on Friday.
Game 2: Zack Wheeler, he is coming off a season-high striking out ten batters over seven innings. He has 21 swinging strikes on 113 pitches. In 15 starts since June 1, he has a 2.71 ERA and 93/28 K/BB ratio over 96 1/3 innings. He starts on Saturday.

Against The Spread Selection: Washington Nationals
My reason for the pick :
The Nationals are motivated than ever after coming off an impressive series win against the Phillies at home. They will be able to carry over the momentum onto the road against the Mets as the Nationals will beat out the Mets on the road 2-1. Bryce Harper will catch fire on the plate as he will lead the way offensively for the Nationals as they continue to cut down the gap in the NL East division. Once the Nationals have the momentum on their side they will be a very hard team to stop because the team depth consists of youth and experienced players. The experienced players can show the younger players the rope, that is how the younger players will develop a lot faster playing alongside veteran players.
The Nationals to beat the Mets on the road 2-1.
