Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Arizona Diamondbacks vs Houston Astros
The Astros will welcome back the D-Backs to Minute Maid Park as the two teams continue their three-game interleague series on Saturday. The Astros are looking to end the season as the AL West division champions while the D-Backs are making one last push for a Wild Card spot. Game two will start at 7:10 PM ET. This will be their second meeting of the season, in their first meeting the D-Backs beat out the Astros 2-1 at home.
Arizona Diamondbacks's Latest Performance :
The D-Backs chances of making the postseason are starting to fade away, they will have to find a way to figure out their bullpen woes. The team bullpen has cost them game after game. The D-Backs are now 3 1/2 games behind the Rockies for the top spot in the division and four games behind the Cardinals for the Wild Card spot. The D-Backs are 17th in batting with 639 runs scored this season and 4th in batting with a 3.63 ERA. If the D-Backs aren’t able to solve the bullpen problem they are likely to be exposed by a heavy hitting team like the Astros.
Not all the blame goes to the team’s bullpen, the D-Backs offense will have to step it up as well as they cannot afford to give away opportunities when runners are in scoring positions. The D-Backs offense has been inconsistent all season long since AJ Pollock went down and he hasn’t looked the same on the plate. Peralta and Goldy will have to play at their absolute best if they want to beat the Astros on the road.
Probable Pitcher: Zack Godley, he allowed five runs on seven hits in four innings in a loss to the Rockies on Monday. He has a 4.57 ERA and 1.40 WHIP and is 14-9 on the year. He will look to bounce back against the Astros on Saturday. Every game from here on out is crucial for the D-Backs if they want to make the postseason.
Houston Astros's Latest Performance :
The Astros will continue their nine-game homestand against the D-Backs. The Astros are coming off a series sweep over the Tigers on the road. The Astros have a three-game lead over the second place A’s. Coming into this game the Astros are the best team in pitching with a 3.11 ERA and 4th best team in batting with 724 runs scored this season. With 16 games left in the season, the Astros will have to play well if they want to end the season as AL West division champions and playing against a D-Backs team who is hungry to make the postseason won’t be an easy task.
Alex Bregman drove in three runs in the Astros’ victory over the Tigers. He became the 2nd Houston hitter to reach 100 RBIs, 100 Runs, 50 doubles. He extended his on-base streak to 39 consecutive games, which is the fifth-longest in club history. He will look to end the regular season strong after having a slow start to the year. He will play a factor in the Astros offense in the second game against the D-Backs.
Probable Pitcher: Charlie Morton, in his return from the DL he allowed two runs over five frames in the Astros’ 5-3 win over the Red Sox. He gave up seven hits and walked a pair, grinding through five innings on 94 pitches. He is 14-3 on the season as he will take on the D-Backs at home in the series opener.

Astros are 17-5 in their last 22 overall.
Diamondbacks are 3-8 in their last 11 overall.
Against The Spread Selection: Houston Astros
My reason for the pick :
The Astros should be able to take game 2 convincingly over the D-Backs at home. Charlie Morton will put up a subline pitching performance as the D-Backs bullpen continue to struggle on the road against the Astros. It is tough for the D-Backs because they are started out the season on fire and now they are struggling to find answers the offense will have to show up or else they will lose in another blowout loss. The Astros will continue to play well after beating out the D-Backs in the first game.
The Astros take a convincing 2-0 lead over the D-Backs.
