Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Arizona Diamondbacks vs Houston Astros
The Astros will be looking to sweep the D-Backs in the rubber game on Sunday. The Astros are in first place of the AL West division while the D-Backs are in third place of the NL West division and their playoff chances are looking very slim since they lost the series to the Rockies. Game 3 starts at 2:10 PM ET.
Arizona Diamondbacks's Latest Performance :
The D-Backs will look to bounce back after failing to capture a series win against the Rockies. The D-Backs are hoping to end this seven-game road trip with a win over the World Series Champions. The inconsistency of the D-Backs offense is really hurting their playoff chances, scoring 15 runs in 4 games. They are now 4 1/2 games behind the leader Rockies in the NL West standings with only 15 games left to play in the season. The D-Backs have dropped 9 of their last 12 games.
Eduardo Escobar went 0-for-4 in the loss to the Rockies on Thursday and is batting .194 in his last 20 games. He isn’t the only D-Backs hitter struggling through a poorly timed slump, but he’s been a problem in the second slot in the lineup lately. We might see a change in the batting line up if things don’t improve going forward.
Probable Pitcher: Zack Greinke, he allowed three runs on six hits over 6 2/3 innings Tuesday in a win over the Rockies. He has allowed three earned runs or fewer in 14 of his last 16 starts. He’s 14-9 with a 3.11 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 185/37 K/BB ratio in 30 starts. Next up for Zack is the Astros on Sunday.
Houston Astros's Latest Performance :
The Astros are preparing themselves for the postseason and are definitely in playoffs mode. They are 9-1 in their last 10 games and the only loss came against the Red Sox on the road. The Astros will take advantage of this D-Backs team who are depleted after a series loss against the Rockies. The Astros are the 4th best batting team in the league with 724 runs scored this season and the best pitching team with a 3.11 ERA.
Jose Altuve should be back in the starting lineup after missing out the rubber game against the Tigers. Although he isn’t having an MVP type year he is still slashing .318/.382/.458 with 12 homers and 15 steals in 123 games. He will cause problems for Zack when he steps up to bat.
Probable Pitcher: Justin Verlander, he struck out 10 batters over seven innings in his last start on Monday in the Astros’ 3-2 win over the Tigers. He is 15-9 on the season with a 2.72 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and 258/35 K/BB ratio in 31 starts covering 195 innings. He returns to the mound on Sunday in the rubber game against the D-Backs.
How Arizona Diamondbacks & Houston Astros Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Astros are 5-1 in their last 6 interleague home games.
Diamondbacks are 2-8 in their last 10 vs. a team with a winning record.
Against The Spread Selection: Houston Astros
My reason for the pick :
The Astros should be able to take this rubber game with ease over the D-Backs at home, with Verlander on the mound I don’t see how the D-Backs batters can figure out his pitches considering how bad the D-Backs are offensively during September. Zack Greinke will have a good game but will likely be rewarded with a no-decision because the D-Backs still haven’t found a solution for their bullpen woes.
Astros to take the rubber game at home over the D-Backs.
