Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Los Angeles Dodgers vs St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals will welcome back the Dodgers to Busch Stadium for game 3 as the two teams are competing for the Wild Card spot in the Nationals League. The Cardinals are third in the NL Central division while the Dodgers are in second place in the NL West. Game 3 starts at 1:05 PM ET. This will be their second meeting of the season, in the first meeting the Cardinals swept the Dodgers on the road in a three-game series.
Los Angeles Dodgers's Latest Performance :
The Dodgers are looking to retake the NL West lead from the Rockies, although they lose the series against the Reds the team offense did show signs of life after putting up eight runs in the rubber game. The Dodgers are 1 1/2 games behind the Rockies for the top spot in the division. The Dodgers are 8th in batting with 690 runs scored this season and second best team in pitching with a 3.45 ERA. The Dodgers are 40-31 when playing on the road this season. Once the Dodgers are hot on the plate they are a really hard team to stop. They have now homered for 20 straight games. The Dodgers got one of the best offensive lines up (Turner, Pederson, and Machado) with Turner leading the way.
Justin Turner is the catalyst of the Dodgers offense as he went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored. Turner will look to close out the month of September strong after a slow start to the month since he is recovering from a wrist injury. He holds an impressive .311/.406/.526 batting line with 13 home runs and 46 RBI over 86 games. He should cause problems for the Cardinals pitcher.
Probable Pitcher: Rich Hill, he struck out seven batters over five innings in a win over the Rockies on Sunday. He will have to play well to keep the Dodgers playoff chances alive. He has allowed three earned runs or fewer in seven of 10 starts since the All-Star break. He’s 8-5 with a 3.88 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 128/37 K/BB ratio in 22 appearances (21 starts).
St. Louis Cardinals's Latest Performance :
The Cardinals are coming off a series win over the Pirates, they are two games ahead of the D0dgers in the Wild Card standings. The Cardinals are 39-32 when playing at home this season. The Cardinals will have to come out of the gates and be ready to take on the Dodgers if they want to hold on to the last Wild Card spot. The Cardinals are 8th in pitching with a 3.73 ERA and 12th in batting with 682 runs scored this season.
Marcell Ozuna will have to play well for the Cardinals if they want to keep the last spot in the Wild Card. He has five home runs and 10 RBI in nine games since returning from the disabled list. The Cardinals will for Ozuna and Carpenter for the offense when they welcome the Dodgers into town for game 3. Ozuna is slashing .279/.321/.433 with 80 RBIs and 21 homers. Fatigue should not be an excuse if your team wants to make the postseason.
Probable Pitcher: John Gant, he limited the Tigers to two runs over 6 2/3 innings in the Cardinals’ 5-2 victory Sunday. He also had six strikeouts in his last start, he hasn’t given up more than two earned runs over his last seven starts. He starts on Saturday against the Dodgers.

Dodgers are 96-47 in their last 143 after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game.
Against The Spread Selection: St. Louis Cardinals
My reason for the pick :
The Cardinals will be able to bounce back after losing out the first two games against the Dodgers. Gant will take charge of the mound as he will limit the Dodgers potent offense proving that you still need a quality pitcher to win in this league no matter how good the offense of the opposing team is. With this win, the Cardinals will look split the series with the Dodgers in game 4. This game will go down to the wire and the Cardinals will look to score early and take home game 3 at home over the Dodgers.
