Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Colorado Rockies vs Chicago Cubs
The NL Wild Card game is going to set place at Wrigley Field, the Cubs will welcome the Rockies as the two teams will play it out in the winner-take-all game. Both teams are coming off a 163 game lost now they will have to shift their focus into the Wild Card game. The winner will get to play the Brewers in the NLDS.
Colorado Rockies's Latest Performance :
The Rockies are hoping to keep their season alive after falling to the Dodgers in the 163rd game of the season. The Rockies who have previously won eight straight games have lost back to back games. The Rockies can’t seem to figure out the Dodgers it is their fourth straight loss against them that includes the three-game sweep back at the beginning of September. The Rockies will now have to erase everything and focus on the Cubs game if they want to keep their magical season alive. The Rockies are 44-38 when playing on the road this season. Coming into this game the Rockies are 7th in batting with 778 runs scored this season and 20th in pitching with a 4.34 ERA. The Rockies will be hoping that they can score early since their bullpen isn’t the strongest.
Nolan Arenado will have to put this Rockies team on his back again if they want to make the postseason. He got his 38th homer of the year against the Dodgers but it wasn’t enough since the Rockies batters were struggling to find any offense against the Dodgers starting pitcher. Arenado finishes the regular season with 38 homers (tops in the NL) and 110 RBI (tied for second).
Probable pitcher: Kyle Freeland, he is set to pitch against the Cubs in the NL wild-card game on Tuesday. He is 17-7 on the season with a 2.85 ERA which is the lowest in franchise history. He will have to play at his best against the Cubs or else the Rockies will be looking from the outside and that late playoffs push will be a waste.
Chicago Cubs's Latest Performance :
The Cubs are set to take on the Rockies on Tuesday, towards the end of the season a lot of people thought that the Cubs were going to run away with the NL Central division but due to a slight hiccup they found themselves tied with the Brewers and have to play an extra game in the regular season and lost at home failing to clinch home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Cubs are 51-31 when playing at home this season they are hoping to play a great game after a disappointing showing last time around in front of the home fans. Coming into this game the Cubs are 9th in batting with 760 runs and 3rd in pitching with a 3.65 ERA.
Anthony Rizzo, he struck a solo homer against the Brewers but his efforts weren’t enough for the Cubs to pull off a win at home. His blast turned off to be the only offense of the afternoon for Chicago. He had a chance to tie the game in the ninth inning but flew out to right field to end it. He will finish the regular season with a .283/.376/.470 batting line to go along with 25 home runs and 101 RBI. He will have to play well against the Rockies in order to keep their season alive.
Probable Pitcher: Jon Lester, he is set to start for the Cubs in the NL wild-card game on Tuesday. He is 7-4 with a 3.32 ERA at home. In his last start, he allowed three hits and four walks allowed while striking out three through six scoreless innings.
How Colorado Rockies & Chicago Cubs Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Cubs are 12-4 in their last 16 when their opponent scores 2 runs or less in their previous game.
Rockies are 7-1 in their last 8 after allowing 5 runs or more in their previous game.
Against The Spread Selection: Chicago Cubs
My reason for the pick :
Jon Lester will get the better of Kyle Freeland in the lefty showdown on Tuesday as the Cubs will take down the Rockies at home to set up a rematch against the Brewers. The Rockies will have a tough time scoring against Lester as Nolan would be the only player for the Rockies to provide any offense. The Rockies bullpen will struggle on the road against the Cubs and they will cost them the game. Despite winning eight straight the game of baseball is about matchups and the Rockies weren’t able to win games that they needed to clinch the NL West title when they had the chance. For the Cubs, they will look forward to playing the Brewers in the NLDS.
