Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Atlanta Braves vs Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers will welcome the Braves to Dodgers stadium as the two teams will begin the National League division series on Thursday. The Dodgers won five of the seven meetings between the clubs in the regular season, including three of four in Atlanta.
Atlanta Braves's Latest Performance :
After a terrific regular season, the NL East champs will take on the Dodgers. They are in the postseason for the first time since 2013. They have lost four of their last five games heading into the postseason mainly because they were resting players for the playoffs. The Braves have been held to two or fewer runs in five of their last seven games, so the offense clearly needs to pick up if this postseason is going to be a success. The young Brave team can score in a hurry but if the Dodgers pitchers show up the young Braves will have to be at their best to cause an upset against a more experienced team like the Dodgers. Coming into this series the Braves are 7th in pitching with a 3.75 ERA and 10th in batting with 759 runs scored this season.
Batter to watch in this series: Ronald Acuna JR., the twenty-year-old will making his first postseason appearance. He finishes the regular season with 26 doubles, and he drove in 64 runs in 111 games. He met the hype and then some in his rookie season; hitting .293/.366/.552. He will have to play out of his mind to upset the World Series finalist in the NDLS.
Pitcher to watch in this series: Mike Foltynewicz, he has emerged as the Braves’ ace this season by posting a 2.85 ERA and 202/68 K/BB ratio over 183 innings. He is set to start in the first game of the series. The first game for the Braves will be the most important game for them because it will set the tone for the whole series.
Los Angeles Dodgers's Latest Performance :
The Dodgers will begin their postseason run against the Braves. The Dodgers are coming off a dominant win against the Rockies to secure back to back NL West titles. Thanks to Atlanta losing four of the last five games of the season, including the final two, the Dodgers ended up with home field for the first round. The Dodgers will rely on their potent offense against the young Braves team. The Dodgers coming into this series are 5th in batting with 804 runs scored this season and second in pitching with a 3.38 ERA.
Batter to watch in this series: Manny Machado, he will be making his first postseason appearance as the Dodgers. He hasn’t lived up to the hype since moving from the O’s and is hoping to have a great playoffs run. Look for him to lead the Dodgers offense against the Braves in the NLDS. He finishes the regular season with a slash line of .297/.367/.538 with 37 homers and 107 RBIs. Once Manny gets it going on the plate expect the runs to come flowing in for the Dodgers in this series.
Pitcher to watch in this series: Walker Buehler, he will look to continue his tremendous rookie campaign against the Braves. He is coming off a win against the Rockies in the 163rd game where he pitched for 6 2/3 innings while allowing only one hit. He has a 1.55 ERA over his final 12 starts.
How Atlanta Braves & Los Angeles Dodgers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Dodgers are 12-4 in their last 16 overall.
Braves are 7-3 in their last 10 road games.
Against The Spread Selection: Los Angeles Dodgers
My reason for the pick :
The Dodgers should be able to advance to the National League Championship Series as they will take down the Braves 3-1 in the best of five series. The inexperience Braves will have no answer for the Dodgers who are eyeing a World Series after falling short to the Astros the previous year. Experience does matter in the postseason and I don’t see them picking up a win away from SunTrust Park in this series. The Los Angeles Dodgers have been there done that, and that experience cancels out the nerves and can lead to more effective play with experienced pitching the Dodgers should advance to the next round. For the Braves, it would be a great learning curve for this young Braves team and we will see Acuna grow in front of our eyes and he should be the player we have to keep an eye on in the future.
Dodgers to take down the Braves 3-1.
