Houston Astros vs Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox will welcome the Astros to Fenway Park as the two teams will play in the American Leauge Championship series starting on Saturday. The Red Sox beat out the Yankees 3-1 while the Astros swept the Indians in their previous round.  A year after Boston lost to Houston in a four-game ALDS, they will open the best-of-seven matchup against the 103-win Astros. The Astros have a 4-3 season series lead over the Red Sox.

Houston Astros's Latest Performance :

The Astros are looking more like the World Series champs after sweeping the Indians. The Astros have it all starting from elite pitchers to batters who can change the game with only one at-bat. They were able to beat out the season series 4-3 in the regular season against the Red Sox. The Astros are 2nd best in pitching in the postseason with a 2.00 ERA and 3rd in batting with 21 runs scored. The Astros are a much better team compared to last season with multiple players going down during the regular season they were still able to win 103 games. They are fully rested after the sweep against the Indians and ready to battle it out against the Red Sox in the seven-game series.

Batter to watch: George Springer, he definitely saved his best baseball until October. He was impressive against the Indians he struck a pair of homers in game 3 which led the Astros to the ALCS. He holds the Astros’ franchise record with 10 home runs over 27 playoff games, and he’s gone deep in seven of his last nine postseason contests. The Red Sox pitchers will have to be prepared when he steps on the plate.

Pitcher to watch: Justin Verlander, he is becoming one of the better pitchers for the Astros since coming over from the Tigers. In his last time on the mound, he allowed only two runs across 5 1/3 innings in the game one victory. He now faces a great challenge ahead of him as he will take on the Red Sox batters in game one. Verlander is capable of pitching deep and piling up the strikeouts. It is hard to imagine anyone being able to beat Verlander twice in a seven-game series.

Boston Red Sox's Latest Performance :

Red Sox reached the AL Championship Series for the first time since the Red Sox won the title in 2013. With a four year absence from ALCS the Red Sox will be playing with a chip on their shoulder and find a way to get past the World Series champions the Astros. The Red Sox finished the regular season with a 108 win season and dropping only one game against the Yankees. The Red Sox batters are capable of putting up runs as they were able to put up 16 runs in game 3 and Holt recording a first-ever postseason cycle. Coming into this postseason the Red Sox are the best batting team with 27 runs scored and 6th in pitching with a 3.50 ERA. The versatile batting lineup will face a challenging task as they will go up against the Astros elite pitchers.

Batter to watch: J.D. Martinez, he will have to produce outstanding numbers against the Astros in the ALCS. He had an impressive regular season finishing with 130 RBIs and 43 homers. He will have to turn it up a notch against the Astros. Great players tend to show up when their team needs them the most so expect Martinez to do just that and try to lead his Red Sox back into the World Series. I expect him to score a lot of runs against the Astros pitching staff but look for him to be a game changer. Once JD is on the plate something great is about to happen.

Pitcher to watch: Chris Sale, consistency is the word to describe Sale as he pitched a perfect eighth inning against the Yankees securing the series win. He is set to start in game 1 going up against Justin Verlander. In his last start, he had eight strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings.

How Houston Astros & Boston Red Sox Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Red Sox are 44-21 in their last 65 when their opponent scores 5 runs or more in their previous game.

Astros are 67-32 in their last 99 after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game.

Against The Spread Selection: Houston Astros

My reason for the pick :

Houston Astros pitchers will come through for the team as the Astros will beat out the Red Sox in six to advance to the World Series for an opportunity to win back to back WS titles. As good as the Red Sox batting has been this season when facing an elite pitching staff like the Astros it will be very difficult for them to produce runs. I expect all the games in this seven-game series to go down to the wire and scoring to be low favoring the Astros. The Red Sox won’t put up 16 runs as they did against the Yankees. The Astros know how to get the job done as they have shown last season. The Red Sox are making their first appearance in the ALCS since 2013 and Alex Cora will have a tough time figuring out the Astros pitches. In baseball when two great teams fare off it is normally the team with the better pitcher who will come out victorious.

The Astros to beat the Red Sox 4-2 to advance to the World Series.

Betting trends for Houston Astros:

  • Astros are 6-1 in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600.

Betting trends for Boston Red Sox:

  • Red Sox are 45-18 in their last 63 home games.

  • Red Sox are 8-2 in their last 10 vs. American League West.
