Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Miami Heat vs Orlando Magic
The Magic will welcome the Heat to Amway Center for their season opener. The Magic ended last season as the 14th seed in the East while the Heat were the 6th seed but eventually lost to the Phillies in five games in the first round. Game tips off at 7:00 PM ET.
Miami Heat 's Latest Performance :
The Heat is trying to get over the hump and become a dominant force in the East again. Wade has re-signed with the team with one final run with the team that started his career. They also extended Winslow contract just before the season begins. The Heat will be hoping that he can he can find ways to affect the game more offensively, he is a great wing player but that is not enough if you want to become a top contender in the East. The opportunity in the East is wide open since LeBron is no longer in the East. Goran Dragic continues to put up solid numbers for the Heat he is one of the most consistent players on the team simply because of his high basketball IQ. Winslow could see some time at the four given only James Johnson and Kelly Olynyk remain as power forward options. Both also can play center and Miami is not committed to Hassan Whiteside. Bam Adebayo could take a jump in minutes this season, who is one of the younger centers, he has shown great promises in the preseason.
Player to watch: Bam Adebayo, he could be one of the Heat surprises this season after having a game-high 26 points shooting 11-17 from the floor with 12 rebounds, five steals, three assists, and three blocks. The skill set is there it is just will he get the minutes to play alongside Whiteside or not.
Orlando Magic's Latest Performance :
Could this be the year that the Magic will play great basketball, I say not yet, they are very close. The Magic went out and drafted Mohamed Bamba out of Texas. Bamba is a great defender but will need to adjust a bit offensively to fit in the modern day NBA. With Nikola Vucevic still on the roster, and likely starting, Bamba isn’t a guarantee for big minutes right off the bat. The Magic hasn’t had a real present since Howard left them although Vucevic looks really promising. Gordon resigning with the team was huge this off-season, he is one of the promising young players in the league. He often deals with injuries, but when healthy has shown the ability to put up big numbers he is the modern day four. The Magic still need a point guard to start the year it will be interesting to see who will get moved to become their point guard. Playing against Heat will allow Vucevic to showcase his offensive repertoire that he has been working on in the summer against Whiteside, it should be a great battle down low between these two.
Player to watch: Aaron Gordon, he is set to have a breakout year for the Magic he has all the tools to be a great offensive threat in the league. He needs to be confident in his abilities and take charge in order to become the leader that the Magic needs him to be.

Against The Spread Selection: Miami Heat
My reason for the pick :
The Heat should be able to take this one on the road against the Magic. The Heat veteran players will have the edge over the young Magic team as Dragic will show the Magic how crucial is it to have an experienced point guard running the floor. The Heat goal this season is definitely trying to make the pass the first round of the playoffs and with Wade playing his last year with the team I won’t be surprised if he puts up big numbers and the Heat ends up becoming one of the top teams in the East.
The Heat to beat out the Magic on the road in the season opener.
