Washington Wizards's Latest Performance :

Big Game From Backcourt

The Washington Wizards when healthy boost one of the best backcourts in the NBA with John Wall running the point with his running mate Bradley Beal at SG. The Wizards have shown a little better pace with John Wall as Wall likes to push the ball up the court rather than Satoransky who liked to take things slower with sets. John Wall has been amazing since his return as he doesn’t look like he has missed a step, and he showed his dominance in the first game as he posted a double-double with 23 points and 15 assists. His running mate didn’t have a bad game either as Beal hit some big shots to keep the game close as he dropped 19 points. The guy who had an amazing showing is the PF Markieff Morris who dropped 22 points picked up another 11 rebounds and had a career high in assist with 6. All three of these guys has good games, but a main reason they didn’t win was due to the lack of production from their wing guys such as Otto Porter and Kelly Oubre. The duo combines for a season average of 26.5 PPG, but were only able to receive a total of 12 points in this matchup. The Raptors have a big advantage on their bench which really separates these two teams so guys like Mike Scott and Satoransky will need to contribute every game to keep them close while the starters rest.

Toronto Raptors's Latest Performance :

Game 1 Problems Over

The Toronto Raptors have one of their best teams yet and have a real shot at competing for an NBA Championship, but doubters have been on the Raptors back all year about their past playoff struggles. The Raptors before 4/14 have not won a game 1 in a playoff series since 2001 which is a big reason they find themselves out of the playoffs as game 1 is a huge momentum swing if you can win. The Raptors played really well in game 1 of the series as they received a big game from Serge Ibaka who had a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds. The Raptors also received a big game from 2 of their key contributors from their bench mob in Delon Wright and C.J. Miles who gave the Raptors a combined 30 points off the bench (18 for Wright, 12 for Miles). C.J. Miles hit a couple of big 3’s that lead to the crowd erupting which entailed Scott Brooks to burn through his timeouts to try and keep this momentum to a minimum. The Raptors did miss one of their key contributors off the bench as Fred VanFleet is sidelined with a shoulder contusion. VanFleet is the guy in charge of running the 2nd unit as he averages 8.6 PPG and 3.2 APG so the Raptors hope to get him back sooner rather than later.

Against The Spread Selection: Washington Wizards +7

My reason for the pick :

The Washington Wizards played close all game until the final couple minutes, but still kept it in reach during game 1. Toronto played extra hard in game 1 to make sure they ended their curse of losing in game 1’s, but I think they poured a little too much of their effort in this ball game as they will take their foot off the gas, and Washington will make a game out of it. Washington covers the spread.
