Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Golden State Warriors vs San Antonio Spurs
The 7th seeded San Antonio Spurs are happy to return home and host the 2 seed Golden State Warriors after getting slaughtered in the first 2 games of this series. The Warriors are 2 wins away from advancing to the 2nd round for the 4th time in the last 5 years while San Antonio is at risk of missing out on the 2nd round of the playoffs for just the 2nd time in the last 7 seasons.
Golden State Warriors's Latest Performance :
Old Warriors Are Back
The NBA world wondered if this will finally be the year that the Warriors lose before the NBA Finals after they lost their MVP PG Steph Curry to an injury. The Warriors simply didn’t know how to play without Steph running the point as they struggled to win games down the stretch of the season, but as we have seen in the first two games the Warriors have a playoff switch. I have mentioned multiple times during Curry’s injury and the Warriors struggles that Steve Kerr had to find a way to get Klay Thompson more involved in the offense as his role started slowly falling off. Kerr must be an avid reader of winning bets as Klay Thompson has been one of the main reasons that the Warriors have beat up on the Spurs in the first two games. Thompson in game 1 dominated from the beginning of the game as he dropped 27 points, but in game 2 we saw a locked in primetime Klay as he went for 16 points in the 4th quarter. The Warriors and Spurs were neck to neck all game, but Klay heated up down the stretch finishing the game with 31 points. Another piece that has not been talked about as much is the new starting center in JaVale McGee who over the course of the first 2 games has combined for 25 points as his energy has been unmatched.
San Antonio Spurs's Latest Performance :
Spurs Playing Out Of Style
The San Antonio Spurs pride and joy this year has been based on their defense as they ended the regular as the top scoring defense in the NBA, but this series has been out of the norm for Popovich and his troops. Of course, the Warriors have one of the best offenses in NBA history, but the Spurs defense is also just as good and they were expecting to fight fire with fire. The Spurs just quite frankly don’t possess the offensive weapons that the Warriors have so a high scoring shootout plays way out of the Spurs interest. The Spurs in game 1 struggled to get their leading scorer going in LaMarcus Aldridge as he only had 14 points, and made it a mission in terms of having him score in game 2. Aldridge in game 2 had an Aldridge like game as he posted a double-double with 34 points and 12 rebounds, but the Spurs still found a way to lose, why so? We know the Spurs have slacked on the defensive end in this series, but another problem that the Spurs have had is finding a consistent scorer outside of Aldridge. A guy the Spurs would really like to see score a little more is their SF Danny Green who only has 6 points in the 47 minutes he has played in through the first two games. Danny Green isn’t going to be a teams first scoring option, but this is a guy who attempts about 5 threes a game and needs to get going as an alternate scoring option.

Against The Spread Selection: Golden State Warriors -3
My reason for the pick :
I have backed the Spurs in the first 2 games as I truly thought that their late season push for the playoffs showed me a team who can compete at a high level. The Warriors on the other hand are just too good and look well on their way to sweeping the first round as Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson are on fire in the playoffs. I know San Antonio is really good at home and they have a hall of fame coach, but they just don’t possess the weapons to keep up with Golden State.
