Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Washington Wizards vs Toronto Raptors

The 1 seed Toronto Raptors are happy to return home after being upset in 2 straight games on the road in Washington as they now find themselves tied in a 2-2 series with the 8th seeded Washington Wizards. Both backcourts had big game 4’s as their stat lines were similar, but the difference in game 4 was the other guys as the Wizards received scoring outside of Wall and Beal.

Washington Wizards's Latest Performance :

Backcourt Dominance

The Washington Wizards have not considered themselves an 8 seed but rather a playoff team, and as we know anything can happen in the playoffs which Washington is trying to prove true. The Wizards have one of the best backcourts in all of the NBA and we have seen just that during the 2018 postseason as Bradley Beal and John Wall have been fabulous. Beal and Wall had big games in game 4 as the duo combined for 58 points, 16 assists, and 11 rebounds which was similar to their opponent’s backcourt, but the difference in this game was Wall’s 3 steals. The most remarkable thing about the Wizards 8 point game 4 win was the fact that their leading scorer in Bradley Beal fouled out with 5 minutes left in the game. We saw John Wall take the game into his own hands as he was responsible for the Wizards last 7 baskets whether it was him scoring it or assisting it. The overall difference in this game was the surrounding cast contributing as the Wizards were able to receive 12 points from Otto Potter and 10 points from Kelly Oubre off the bench. If the Wizards want to continue giving themselves a chance in this series they won’t only need Beal and Wall to keep putting on a show, but they will need the other guys to keep contributing their fair share of points.

Toronto Raptors's Latest Performance :

Old Raptors Are Back

LeBron and the Cavs are struggling, the Boston Celtics are injured, and the Philadelphia 76ers are young and inexperienced so everything points to the Raptors breaking their playoff curse and making it to the NBA finals. Well that’s what we thought after the regular season as they dominated the Eastern Conference and after going up 2-0 to start this series we were led to believe the Raptors are contenders, but here we are and the Raptors find themselves in a minimum of a 6 game series. The backcourt duo of DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry put together a nice game 4 as the duo combined for 54 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 assists, but the problem in this matchup was the lack of support from the other guys. The Raptors received a big game out of Serge Ibaka in game 1 as he contributed 23 points which led the team, but in game 4 Ibaka struggled to find his stroke as he had his chances to score but was only able to score 7 on the day. Another guy who went missing in game 4 was the energizer bunny off the bench in C.J. Miles who in the two wins combined for 30 points, but like Ibaka, Miles struggled to find a consistent shot as he was only able to score 2 points. The Raptors bread and butter all season has been on their bench scoring and they can’t afford their leading scorer off the bench in Miles to only score 2 points.

Against The Spread Selection: Toronto Raptors*

My reason for the pick :

Raptors fans are starting to see flashbacks of past playoffs where the Raptors have not exceeded expectations, but the Raptors have arguably the coach of the year in Dwane Casey who will make sure his troops are ready for this matchup. The Raptors will need big games out of C.J. Miles and Serge Ibaka as during their 2 wins this series both guys had good games. Toronto fans will be rocking as they know their team needs a boost from them and the Raps will win as the Wizards have awakened a beast.
