Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Philadelphia 76ers vs Boston Celtics
The 2 seed Boston Celtics are set to open up game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals as they will host the 3 seed Philadelphia 76ers. The Boston Celtics advanced through the Eastern Conference Semifinals in 2017 as they lost in the ECF. The 76ers are looking to advance to their first Eastern Conference Final since 2001.
Philadelphia 76ers's Latest Performance :
Trust The Process
The Philadelphia 76ers are only 2 seasons removed from being a 10 win team and don’t only find themselves in the Eastern Conference Semifinals but are one of the favorites to win the Eastern Conference and have a shot at an NBA title. The Philadelphia 76ers are able to deploy an arsenal of weapons as they have 6 guys who averaged in double-digits through the first round. The 76ers may have found the Kobe and Shaq of the modern ERA as Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons have proved to be one of the best PG and C duos in all of basketball. Joel Embiid played all bang up in the first round but was still able to contribute as he averaged a double-double with 18.7 PPG and 10.3 RPG to go along with a team-high in blocks with 3 per game. The other guy that makes up this remarkable duo is Ben Simmons who is only a rookie but plays like a veteran as he averaged just below a triple-double with 18.2 PPG, 10.6 RPG, and 9 APG. As good as this young duo has played in the early going the 76ers are led by a veteran who has played in many games as J.J. Redick leads the team in points as he averages over 20 PPG. The 76ers are a dangerous team as they have veterans coming off the bench who have been starters their whole careers like Ersan Ilyasova and Marco Belinelli who combined for 27.4 PPG.

Boston Proves Critics Wrong
The Boston Celtics might be one of the few 2 seeds in recent history that no one has any faith in as they were picked to be a prime candidate to be upset in the 1st round, and they are now not given a chance against the 76ers. People doubt this team due to the lack of a superstar as Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward are out, but what makes this team so appealing is the way these young guys have come together down the stretch. The Celtics are led by veteran Al Horford as he led the team in PPG and RPG through the first round as he averaged 18.1 PPG and 8.7 RPG, but the makeup outside Horford is fun to watch. The Celtics deploy 3 youngsters who were not slated to be starters when the season began as Terry Rozier, Jayson Tatum, and Jaylen Brown have developed into good NBA players. The trio averages a combined 50.9 PPG and all three guys have shown the ability to score at all three levels. One problem that the Celtics have that could prove to bite them in the butt is the lack of a good bench. The Celtics are hoping their bench is revived with Marcus Smart back in the lineup as he averaged in double-digits during the regular season with 10.2 PPG. The Celtics aren’t based on their offense though as this is one of the best scoring defenses in the NBA which will need to be revamped in the second round as they don’t have the firepower to keep pace with Philly.

Against The Spread Selection: Philadelphia 76ers -3
My reason for the pick :
The Philadelphia 76ers have proven that they are one of the best teams in the NBA as they ended the regular season on a 16 game win streak and then beat up on the Miami Heat in the first round. The 76ers possess a major matchup advantage as Ben Simmons is too big for any of the guards to cover and Al Horford isn’t a great post defender and if they want to substitute offense for defense Aaron Baynes doesn’t possess much of a threat to score. Philadelphia is in another gear right now as the city is buzzing for another championship. Philadelphia knows how close they are to completing the process and they continue the next chapter tonight.
