Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
New Orleans Pelicans vs Golden State Warriors
The Warriors return to Oracle Arena for game 5 as they try to close out this series at home and advance to the Western Conference Finals.
Pelicans will try to prolong the series as they hope to steal one on the road.
New Orleans Pelicans's Latest Performance :
The Pelicans came out disengaged in game 4, it is very discouraging if you are a Pelicans fan. There was no effort in from Pelicans players tonight as they gave up easy layups and wide open shots to the Warriors all game long. Game 4 reminded me of game 1 where the Pelicans were completely outmatched. This Pelicans team aren’t able to match up against the Warriors. It is very sad to see a team that won in the first round in a sweep are getting destroyed by the Warriors in the second round.
Anthony Davis had himself a solid game he dropped 26 points and grabbed 6 rebounds but the Pelicans will need more production from Davis if the Pelicans were playing some other team but not the Warriors they would have won the game easy, he is in the Conference Semis and it might be a little too late as the Warriors will try to close out game 5 at home.
Rondo is coming off a career game where he had 20 dimes in game 3 tonight he only had 6 points and 6 assists. The Warriors made sure that he did not go off for two games in a row. Jrue Holiday had himself a nice game but his production was not enough as he dropped 19 points in the home loss. These two in this series had to face some tough defenders and could not get it going like they wanted to, in this series they got a dose of their own medicine.
Nikola Mirotic who was playing on a different level in the previous series can’t seem to find his shooting touch in this series plus he has to guard Kevin Durant that makes it hard for him to generate offense. Ian Clark who was the catalyst of the game 3 win was shut down by the Warriors tonight he shot only 28.6% from the floor when the Warriors play clamped up the defense like they did tonight they are very hard to beat.
Player to Watch: Anthony Davis, he has to play the best game of his career to keep his season alive, it is going to be hard because it is very rare for the Warriors to lose at home in a closeout game. Personally, I don’t blame him for not being able to take down the Warriors because he was the only true All-Star on the team and you must have at least 2 All-Star players to compete with the Warriors. Davis will learn from this series that he can’t win alone as he should start recruiting more All-Star players to join the team.
Golden State Warriors's Latest Performance :
The Golden State Warriors will look to close things out at home in game 5 against the Pelicans. After the game 3 lost the Warriors made some key adjustments and came out with a huge lead setting the tone early in the game. This game reminded me of the game 1 where the Warriors blew out the Pelicans. No one could stop Kevin Durant in this game as he dropped 38 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Kevin Durant, in my opinion, is the best scorer in our league today with his size and the ability to shoot the ball like he does makes him one of the best players in the league. Kevin Durant got all the offensive move in his repertoire. He can fade off both legs, on one leg, over either shoulder, shoot off the dribble, pull-up jump shot from the 3 point line. He should come up huge for the Warriors in the closeout game.
Stephen Curry since his return he is starting to look like his own self again as he dropped 23 points and went 4 for 9 from 3. Curry presence on the floor helps the Golden State Warriors with floor spacing, when playing the Warriors it is hard for the opponent to cover all the shooters on the floor and with the way this team moves the ball there is nothing you can really do besides hoping for them to miss, it really hard to rotate to cover the open shooter.
When a team turns the ball over the Warriors will look to run and get a quick three in transition look for that to happen in the closeout game because the Pelicans will look to come out aggressive turning the ball over in the paint and give up a three on the other end.
Player to Watch: Klay Thompson, he always seems to show up in big games for the Warriors, I expect him to do the same in game 5. Warriors will run plays for him early to get him going, if Klay is off to a quick start the Pelicans can throw in the towel because the Warriors are advancing to the Conference Finals.
How New Orleans Pelicans & Golden State Warriors Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Warriors are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 home games.
Pelicans are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.
Against The Spread Selection: Golden State Warriors
My reason for the pick :
The Golden State Warriors will prove to be too much for the Pelicans. All series long they had a problem with matchups and game 5 will be no different as the Warriors will protect their home court and advance to the Western Conference Finals.
