Philadelphia 76ers vs Boston Celtics

The 2 seed Boston Celtics are excited to return home to TD Garden for game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals as they have a chance to close out their series against the 3 seed Philadephia 76ers in front of their home crowd. Philadelphia was able to extend this series after a 103-92 win at home in game 4.

Philadelphia 76ers's Latest Performance :

Big Game Out Of Other Guys

The Philadelphia 76ers were the favorite to win the Eastern Conference after the 1st round of the playoffs, but the Sixers found themselves in a 0-3 hole real quick against the Boston Celtics which has “the process” battling for their season from here on out. The Sixers were led by Dario Saric who has gone blank as of recent, but game 4 was a different story as Saric was able to drop 25 points and grab 8 rebounds in 39 minutes of play. The Sixers were also able to receive big games out of their typical sources as Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid had their typical stat line as the duo had 34 points and 20 rebounds, but the production of T.J. McConnell is what ultimately won the Sixers the game. McConnell was inserted into the starting lineup for game 4 for the struggling Robert Covington and he didn’t disappoint as he was able to drop a career high in points with 19. McConnell was also able to contribute 7 rebounds and 5 assists which are well above his playoff average as through the first 8 games he averaged 3.4 PPG, 1.6 RPG, 1.5 APG. The one downfall from their game 4 victory was the lack of three-point shooting as the Sixers only shot 7 for 26 from behind the arc. Two of the best three-point shooters in J.J. Redick and Robert Covington struggled to find their stroke from behind the arc as the duo went 2 for 12 from deep.

Boston Celtics's Latest Performance :

Turnovers Kill Boston

The Boston Celtics were brought back to life in game 4 as they weren’t able to receive their superman performances from Terry Rozier and Al Horford, but a major contribution to their lost happens to be the turnover battle as Boston turned the ball over 15 times versus Philadelphia only turning it over 8. The Celtics were able to receive their typical production from their rookie sensation in Jayson Tatum as he was able to go for a team-high 20 points. The Celtics also received good production from Marcus Morris who came off the bench and gave the C’s 17 points as he went 3 for 6 from 3 point range. Outside of Morris and Tatum the production from the Celtics was little to none as Scary Terry struggled to find his typical game. Terry Rozier has been solid for the Celtics all playoffs as he leads the team in PPG with 19. Rozier struggled to find his shot from behind the arc in game 4 as he was only able to hit 1 of his 6 three-point attempts which only gave him 11 points in the game. Al Horford was smothered in this game by the Sixers defense after Playoff Al won game 3 with a big performance, and it seemed to rattle Horford as he had a team-high in turnovers with 4 as well as only contributed 10 points. The Celtics were able to outshoot the Sixers in both FG and 3-point %, but the 15 turnovers proved to be the deciding factor.

Against The Spread Selection: Boston Celtics +1.5

My reason for the pick :

The Philadelphia 76ers were one of the best teams to watch this season as this young Sixers team was really good when clicking on all cylinders, but all good things come to an end and this is one of them as the Sixers run is coming to an end as they have to travel to a hostile Boston crowd. The Sixers were able to use the emotion of the home crowd as well as the energy off T.J. McConnell to win, but with Brad Stevens as the head coach of the Celtics he will figure out the best way possible to slow down McConnell as he is a defensive mastermind. Terry Rozier and Al Horford are two Celtics that the team depends on and beside them both having awful game 4’s the Celtics loss was only by 11 points. I expect the Celtics to win at home and look forward to Cleveland.
