Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Golden State Warriors vs Houston Rockets
The Rockets will welcome back the Golden State Warriors to Toyota Center for game number 2. After being outplayed in the first game the Rockets are hoping to turn things around and grab this win at home making it a 1-1 series to avoid going to the bay down 2-0.
Golden State Warriors's Latest Performance :
The Warriors came out firing in game 1 as they shot 52% from the floor, this team simply has too many scoring options. Kevin Durant went off for 37 points shooting 52% from the floor scoring most of his points from the mid-range hitting tough shots after tough shots it did not matter who was guarding him. He dropped 13 in the 3rd. Kevin was playing on another level in game one, he also even chanted during the game “no one can guard me” that tells us how confident he is at this very moment. The Rockets sent Tucker, Ariza and even had Chris Paul guarded Kevin Durant at times, but Durant seems to be unfazed by whatever the Rockets did to try to contain him. In this postseason I have yet to find anyone who can stop KD from scoring.
Once the Warriors took the lead from the Rockets they never looked back. The Warriors are too good defensively they switch on every matchup to prevent a mismatch from happening.
Klay Thompson is the unsung hero for the Warriors he had 28 points in game one scoring 11 points in the 4th. He is one of the best players to move without the ball and Klay always shows up in big games and it was important for the Warriors to steal one on the road to set the tone for the whole series. Stephen Curry had a solid game with 18. The Warriors have too many weapons as it is hard for the Rockets to rotate and cover all the shooters not to mention their ball movement is a beauty to watch.
Kevin Looney is becoming an Elite Defender in front of our very eyes. His ability to guard Harden and Paul on the switch using his length was really impressive, he should continue to play well in game 2.
Player to Watch: Klay Thompson, he will continue to find ways to score on the Rocket defense as the Rockets will have no answer for him because they will be too focused on containing Durant which will open up the game for Klay.
Houston Rockets's Latest Performance :
The Rockets did not have a bad first game at home, they were just simply outplayed by the Warriors. Season series doesn’t really mean anything now when you are playing in the Western Conference Finals. James Harden did all he could in game one as he dropped 39 points shot 5 for 9 from distance but his effort wasn’t enough. The Rockets offense became too predictable, give the ball to Harden and let’s hope he makes a step back three. The Rockets offense is too stagnant at this point.
Chris Paul had 23 points in game one, the thing about Chris Paul is that he is not a natural scorer so it is hard for him to switch to a scorer mentality and take over games like Harden does. Paul is what we call a true point guard let others get theirs first then he can get his later, with that thought process it is not going to work against the Warriors. CP3 and Harden must score 30 points or more each game to even have a chance to compete with this Warriors team. In the previous series, the Rockets were able to shut down the opposing team scorer but when they are playing in WCF they have to find ways to contain 3 elite scorers KD, Curry, and Klay.
The Rockets must do anything they can in game 2 to stop Kevin Durant from having his way, by throwing multiple defenders on him and hope that he has a bad shooting night, Ariza must do a better job managing his fouls in game 2 because the Rockets will need his versatility defensively when it comes to crunch time.
Player to Watch: Eric Gordon. He had a disappointing game 1 he only scored 15 points off the bench shooting 46% from the floor. The Warriors will give him the shots he is used to taking because the Warriors are focused on containing James and Paul. For the Rockets to tie this series at home Gordon must play his best game of the season.
How Golden State Warriors & Houston Rockets Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Rockets are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.
Warriors are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Conference Finals games.
Against The Spread Selection: Golden State Warriors
My reason for the pick :
The Golden State Warriors will steal game 2 making it a 2-0 series heading back to the Bay Area. The Warriors ball movement will be too much for the Rockets to handle, having exquisite ball movement will allow the team to give up a good shot for a great shot something that the Warriors have been doing all season long.
Kevin Durant will have his way again no matter who you throw at him he will still have a good game. The Rockets are a great team but at this point in time, they are simply being outplayed by the World Champs.
Betting trends for Golden State Warriors:
