Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Cleveland Cavaliers vs Golden State Warriors
This will be the 4th meeting in 4 years between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Last season, the Warriors beat the Cavaliers in five games to take their third title and second in three years. These teams meet in Game 1 from Oracle Arena in Oakland on Thursday night.
Cleveland Cavaliers's Latest Performance :
The Cavs will have a chance to redeem themselves after losing in 5 in the last years’ final. The road to the finals for this Cavs team wasn’t easy as they had to play 2 game 7’s on the road to get to the finals. After losing Kyrie the critics wrote off the Cavs not making the finals and here they are once again.
LeBron is headed to his 8 straight finals his finals record is 3-5. Up to this point he has always come through for the Cavs but now he will have to go up against a team that he is very familiar with and ever since the Golden State Warriors added Kevin Durant into the team they are a very hard team to beat 4 times. In LeBron’s 15th year it is the first time that he played all 82 games. He will have to dominate the game from the get-go as this will set the tone for the whole series. LeBron will show up as always but will his teammates have his back.
Kevin Love banged heads with Jayson Tatum and was put in the concussion protocol. This was his second concussion of the season and third since 2016. Love was averaging 13.9 points and 10.0 rebounds in the playoffs and is considered questionable for Game 1 of the Finals. The Cavs will have to call up Jeff Green number yet again after a terrific game 7 on the road where he dropped 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds in 42 minutes the Cavs will definitely need his productions in this finals. The Cavs backcourt Hill, JR Smith will have to show up if the Cavs want to make this a competitive series.
For the Cavs to win game 1, LeBron will have to find ways to get his teammates going early this would allow LeBron to play isolation against Kevin Durant and if the Warriors sends a double his teammates will have to be ready to shoot the ball at all times.
Player to Watch: LeBron James, he played 94 of 96 minutes he is the backbone of Cavs team, he will have to figure out a way to beat this Warriors team because this is his 4th time he is playing against them. I expect LeBron to go all out in game 1, he will send a message to the Warriors that no one can stop the king.
Golden State Warriors's Latest Performance :
After a dominant performance on the road beating out the Rockets in 7 games, the Golden State Warriors are back in the finals for the 4th straight time. Many are stating that the Warriors got lucky yet again because of the injury of CP3. However, the team must shift their focus into the finals and leave all the Western Conference talk behind. After a series of injuries at the start of the postseason, the Golden State will be getting a healthy Stephen Curry who had a brilliant game 7 on the road scoring 19 points including 11 points straight. He will have an easier Finals this time around because the Cavs no longer have Kyrie Irving playing point guard.
Klay Thomson will continue to shoot well as he will find holes in the Cavs defense using his ability to move without the ball and get open shots. He has really shown us time and time again that he has the ability to score the ball with ease, he has accepted the role of being the third option in scoring in this stacked team but he has shown that he can heat up in a heartbeat if the Cavs don’t cover him tight he will be a problem for the Cavs team. The Warriors defense has been stellar they held the Rockets under 100 points in the last five games and doing it without their perimeter defender Andre Iguodala. Iguodala is expected to miss game 1 of the Finals as he is still suffering from a knee injury.
The Warriors know exactly what the Cavs game plan is after the 4 days rest I am certain that they have been studying film as they will do all they can to contain LeBron James from being a scorer and try to limit the Cavs backcourt from scoring. I expect Kevin Durant and Draymond Green to do most of the guarding until Andre returns from injury.
Player to watch: Kevin Durant, he is hoping that he can replicate what he did in last years finals, he outscored Lebron in nearly every game, he will be a problem for LeBron on the defensive end that will be the key factor to wear LeBron down in the offensive end. He leads the Warriors with 29 points per game with 7.1 rebounds on 47.9 percent shooting (32.8% 3pt) in the postseason.
How Cleveland Cavaliers & Golden State Warriors Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Cavaliers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
Warriors are 8-21-1 ATS in their last 30 games following an ATS win.
Against The Spread Selection: Golden State Warriors
My reason for the pick :
I expect the Golden State Warriors to come out gunning from 3 point territory in game 1, as the Warriors should be able to win game 1 at home over the Cavs. The Warriors defense won’t allow the Cavs backcourt to get going forcing LeBron to do all the work, it will be harder for LeBron operate this series because the Warriors will be sending multiple defenders at him. The Cavs will realize that for them to win the series they will have to bring their A-game every night. The Warriors defense will show up in game 1 as Stephen Curry will lead the way in scoring, he will be a problem for this Cavs team this team around because the Cavs got no one who can guard him.
