Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Atlanta Hawks vs New York Knicks
The Knicks will welcome the Hawks to Madison Square Garden for their season opener, the Knicks ended the season as the 11th seed in the East while the Hawks were in the last place of the East. Game tips off at 7:30 PM ET.
Atlanta Hawks's Latest Performance :
The Hawks drafted Trae Young in the first round of the 2018 draft, who is a young point guard out of Oklahoma. Young has plenty of upside, and has similarities to Steph Curry. They are hoping to rebuild a team like the Golden State Warriors. The Hawks are years away from making the postseason but they made a bold move to draft a point guard who is basically the heart of the team. Taurean Prince played well toward the end of the season it will be interesting to see how he plays this season alongside Young. The Hawks signed Alex Len from the Suns so he will be filling up the minutes in the Center position. The young Hawks will have to embrace this rebuilding process and grow together as a team with Young being the cornerstone of the franchise.
Player to watch: Trae Young, he is coming off a game winner against the Spurs to end the preseason. He flashed his potential, making a bunch of nice passes and hitting from super-deep range although he still needs to work on his shot selection although his confidence is already there.
New York Knicks 's Latest Performance :
The Knicks are in the rebuilding mode they picked up Kevin Knox from the draft, he has shown great promises in the Summer league and could end up a steal in the draft if the Knicks use him in the right way. Knox is expected to start against the Hawks in the season opener. Kanter looked really solid in the preseason putting up monstrous double-doubles in the games he played. He is a lock to start at center for the Knicks this season, so he could be in for a career-year with Kristaps Porzingis (knee) set to miss a majority of the season. Tim Hardaway Jr. will have to play well if the Knicks want to contend with Porzingis out of the rotation. Mario Hezonja joined the Knicks from the Magic and is expected start at the small forward position. Playing against the Hawks will be a great challenge for this young Knicks team because both teams are rebuilding for the future.
Player to watch: Tim Hardaway Jr., he will have to embrace the leadership role and take charge of the Knicks offense against the Hawks. He is turning from a wrist injury and should be ready to go in the season opener.
How Atlanta Hawks & New York Knicks Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Knicks are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 vs. NBA Southeast.
Hawks are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. Eastern Conference.
Against The Spread Selection: New York Knicks
My reason for the pick :
The Knicks should be able to beat the Hawks in their season opener despite missing their best player, the young Hawks will still have a lot to learn since it is Trey Young first professional game and he is playing at MSG he will need some time to adjust to the NBA speed. Hardaway will have a good game hitting shots from his spots all game long the Hawks will have a tough time covering him. Kanter will also have a solid game after an impressive showing in the preseason he should do well in his first game back. It will be a long season for the Hawks but they know that their future looks really bright.
The Knicks to beat the Hawks at home in their season opener.
