New Orleans Pelicans vs Houston Rockets
The Houston Rockets will welcome the Pelicans to Toyota Center for their season opener, both teams got eliminated by the Warriors the Rockets lost to the Warriors in seven in the Western Conference Finals while the Pelicans lost to the Golden State Warriors in five in the semis. Game tips off at 8:00 PM ET.
New Orleans Pelicans's Latest Performance :
The Pelicans were unable to retain the core of Rondo and Holiday those two terrific playing alongside one another in the postseason sweeping the Blazers to fill in Rondo’s role the Pelicans brought inElfrid Payton he has a similar playing style like Rondo but still needs to work on his offense. However, the Pelicans were able to sign Randle from the Lakers after Cousins went to Golden State their twin tower experiment didn’t work out the way they wanted it to. With Randle’s all-around game, he should fit in quite well with this offense. Randle ended the preseason averaging 17.3 points and 7.3 rebounds in 25 minutes per game he should have a great impact on the Pelicans this season. It will be a very interesting season for the Pelicans with the new additions of players to the roster. One thing that is certain for the Pelicans fans is that Anthony Davis is still holding it down for the City of New Orleans and he is now one of the best big men in the NBA. Nikola Mirotic is either going to be an offensive spark plug off the bench, or he is going to be starting.
Player to watch: Anthony Davis, he loves to put up huge numbers in the season openers to send a message to the league that he is not messing around this season. He ended the preseason by scoring 36 points grabbing 15 rebounds, three assists, two steals, four blocks against the Raptors.
Houston Rockets's Latest Performance :
The Rockets had a remarkable season last year they were one win away from making the NBA Finals. Some might say that if the Rockets were healthy they would have taken down the Warriors team with ease. The injury of Chris Paul in game 7 cost them their season. Coming into this season the Rockets have lost two of their best three-point shooters, Ariza and Anderson to the Suns. Gerald Green signed another year and will likely take on a bigger role given Houston lost two forwards. Carmelo Anthony ended up in Houston, which gives him the power forward position that was freed up by Trevor Ariza. Gordon is an important scorer off the bench and can play both the one and two. When Paul is out he will play alongside Harden, who moves over to point guard. The Rockets will stick to what they know best which is keep launching away from beyond the arch if it is not broken don’t fix it.
Player to watch: James Harden, he had made the game look so effortlessly, he was finally rewarded with his first MVP trophy. He is the most polished offensive player in the league today the only thing left on his resume is a championship ring. His team was one win away from making the Finals. He will do all he can to lead the Rockets to the finish line.
How New Orleans Pelicans & Houston Rockets Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Rockets are 12-4-1 ATS in their last 17 Wednesday games.
Pelicans are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up loss.
Against The Spread Selection: Houston Rockets
My reason for the pick :
The Rockets should be able to win on their season opener at home against the Pelicans. As good as Davis is the league has now become a guard dominant league as I expect the Rockets to hit threes right and left. With Chris Paul back in the lineup healthy he will be in charge of the tempo of the game and take control of the game when he is on the floor. The main focus of Paul this season is to remain healthy. The Rockets will prove to be too much for the Pelicans to handle in the season opener. Davis will have a good game but his point production won’t be enough to beat the Rockets.
