Phoenix Suns vs Denver Nuggets
The Nuggets will begin their homestand by welcoming the Suns to Pepsi Center. Both teams were able to pick up wins in their season opener. The Nuggets were able to edge the Clippers while the Suns blew out Dallas. Game tips off at 9:00 PM ET.
Phoenix Suns's Latest Performance :
The Phoenix Suns came out gunning in their first game at home shooting 55% from beyond the arch, the Suns were on fire against Dallas. Leading the charge for the Suns was Devin Booker it was his first game back after injuring his right hand during the off-season. He made 12-of-19 from the field for 35 points to go along with 6 threes. Deandre Ayton was outstanding in his debut against the Mavs he had 8 points with 10 rebounds, six assists, one steal, one block, and no turnovers. The real surprise came from veteran Trevor Ariza as he scored 21 points with eight rebounds, seven assists, one steal and five 3-pointers he was doing it all for the Suns in the first game he seems to fit well in the new Suns offense. T.J. Warren isn’t known for his 3 point shooting but caught fire early as he hit three straight threes. He won’t be making these shot every night be it is great to see what he capable of doing. Playing against the Nuggets the Suns will have to contain the Nuggets backcourt, Harris and Murray because once they get going things will open up for Jokic inside.
Player to watch: Jamal Crawford, he signed a one year deal with the young Suns to take on a mentorship role. He didn’t start in their home opener, he was active on the bench mentoring the younger players. It will be great to see him sharing the floor with Booker as they both can score the ball with ease.
Denver Nuggets's Latest Performance :
The Nuggets are coming off a dominant win against the Clippers in their season opener. They will now head back home to play the Suns. After a 15-26 road record in it was great to see the Nuggets opened their season up with a win on the road. The Nuggets used their defensive tendency holding the Clippers to only 40 percent shooting from the floor and 8-of-28 from the 3-point line, expect them to do the same thing against the Suns. Nikola Jokic scored 21 points with eight rebounds, five assists, one steal, one block, and one 3-pointer in 34 minutes. Gary Harris played 34 minutes against the Clippers on Wednesday, scoring 20 points with three rebounds, two assists, and no turnovers. He made all eight from the line and 6-of-16 from the field he will have to go up against Devin Booker in his next game. Playing against the Suns the Nuggets will have to play similar to what they did against the Clippers run the Suns off the three-point line and forcing them to take inside shots.
Player to watch: Nikola Jokic, it has been a while since Jokic has gone up against a true big man, he will be facing the number one draft pick Ayton. It will be interesting to see who will come up on top in the battle of the bigs.
How Phoenix Suns & Denver Nuggets Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Nuggets are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. NBA Pacific.
Suns are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games.
Against The Spread Selection: Phoenix Suns
My reason for the pick :
The Phoenix Suns are a team that can surprise a lot of people this season, after what they did against the Mavs they can they replicate that performance against the Nuggets. The addition of Ariza is huge for the Suns not only is he a lockdown defender he can hit the 3 as well, last game Anderson didn’t quite find his range but when he gets his shooting stroke back this Suns team will be very hard to beat. Booker is the closer on the team and his starting to look comfortable with bringing the ball up the court. For the Nuggets they are hoping that they can get a quick start against the Suns that would allow them to free the space inside for Jokic to operate. However, the battle of Ayton and Jokic should go down to the wire.
The Suns to steal one on the road against the Nuggets.
