Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

San Antonio Spurs vs Portland Trail Blazers

The Blazers will welcome the Spurs to Moda Centre as they were able to take down the Lakers in their season opener. The Spurs are coming off a decisive victory at home as they hit the road for the first time this season. Game tips off at 10:10 PM ET.

San Antonio Spurs's Latest Performance :

The Spurs are coming off a close victory against the Wolves, the Spurs philosophy remains the same move the ball and give up a good shot for a better shot. DeRozan had a great debut for the Spurs as he dropped 28 points to go with four rebounds, four assists and three turnovers in 38 minutes. He was aggressive on the floor shooting  10-of-21 FGs and 7-of-11 FTs. He is set to be the focal point of the Spurs offense. LaMarcus Aldridge picked up from where he left off last season as he grabbed 19 rebounds in the opener to go with 21 points to end the night. With the point guard situation, the Spurs decided to go with Bryn Forbes in the opener he had 11 points, three rebounds, two assists, two steals, he will have to face Lillard in his next start will be interesting to see how he does against an elite guard.

Player to watch: DeMar DeRozan, the Spurs will have to rely on DeMar to score a lot since Rudy Gay isn’t fully healthy so plays will be made for DeRozan to slash to the rim or pull up from his mid-range spot against the Trailblazers. He should look to exploit the small forward matchup since the Blazers would have Evan Turner covering him.

Portland Trail Blazers's Latest Performance :

All eyes were on LeBron and the new Lakers but however, the Blazers were able to send the Lakers back to earth and reminded everyone that this Portland team finished third in the Conference last season. It was raining three’s for Portland tonight they scored 30 or more points in three of the four quarters, capped off by 35 points in the fourth. Damian Lillard scored 28 points with six rebounds, four assists, one steal, one block, and two 3-pointers in 35 minutes. He carried his team on his back all game long. C.J. McCollum scored 21 points with five rebounds, one assist, and three 3-pointers. Nik Stauskas was on fire from distance in their first season opener he had 24 points with two rebounds, two assists, one steal, and five 3-pointers in 27 minutes. If he can maintain his shooting stroke he might earn some more minutes as the season progresses.

Player to watch: Damian Lillard, I expect him to exploit the point guard mismatch from the very beginning because the Spurs are lacking a starting caliber point guard since Murray when down to an injury. Lillard is playing with a chip on his shoulder as he is doing all he can to take Portland to the next level.

How San Antonio Spurs & Portland Trail Blazers Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Trail Blazers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.

Spurs are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 vs. NBA Northwest.

Against The Spread Selection: Portland Trail Blazers

My reason for the pick :

The Blazers backcourt will get the best of the Spurs in this game and win at home opening their season up  2-0. The Spurs will have a tough time covering Lillard and CJ, DeRozan will get his numbers in this game but his efforts won’t be enough to lead the Spurs to a victory. The luxury of Portland in this game is that their best players can create for themselves and play isolation basketball to get their points while the Spurs they will have to rely on one player to get the job done. The three ball will be a huge part of the Blazers offense this season I see them utilizing the three-ball against the Spurs.

The Blazers to beat the Spurs at home start the season off 2-0.

Betting trends for San Antonio Spurs:

  • Spurs are 1-9 ATS in their last 10 road games.

Betting trends for Portland Trail Blazers:

  • Trail Blazers are 20-6-1 ATS in their last 27 home games.
