Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Denver Nuggets vs Cleveland Cavaliers
The Denver Nuggets will continue their road trip on Thursday night as they proceed to Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, to face the Cleveland Cavaliers at 7 pm EST. Denver has played well thus far in the season as they continued their success versus the New Orleans Pelicans in their last outing as Gary Harris continued his outstanding play in scoring 23 points for the game as the Nuggets defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 116-111 while atoning for their prior loss to the Lakers, to which they fell by a 121-114 score on October 25th.
Cleveland, on the other hand, continues to struggle on the season yet picked up their first win of the season with a high-scoring 136-114 home win on Tuesday night as Rodney Hood led the team with 26 points. Both teams have not had problems scoring against teach other as the over has been the play in four of the last five outings amongst these two teams.
Denver Nuggets 's Latest Performance :
The Nuggets got 23 points from Gary Harris while Jamal Murray also had 23 points and five boards on the night as the Denver Nuggets followed up their first loss of the season with a huge win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday night. And while the Pelicans shot over 50% for the game along with 46% from three-point range, the Nuggets shot 45% from the floor while shooting a dismal 31% from three-point range. Nonetheless, the Nuggets were assisted by a second quarter outburst to where they outscored the road team 38-21 to go up 58-45 at the half en route to a slim victory.
The Pelicans played this game without Anthony Davis, who has a sprained right elbow, however, Nikola Miritic took up much of the slack in having 17 points and ten rebounds while Julius Randle chipped in 24 to lead New Orleans. The Pelicans doomed themselves with 22 turnovers for the game while also allowing 14 steals for the Nuggets on the night en route to the loss.
Cleveland Cavaliers 's Latest Performance :
The Cavaliers ended their six-game losing streak to begin the season as Rodney Hood scored 26 points while Cedi Osman chipped in 20 points as the team, as well as returning acting coach Larry Drew, received their first win of the season after Tyron Lue’s firing. Lue was fired on Monday after the Cavs started 0-6 to begin the season as Drew comes into the head coaching position after being an assistant since 2014. The new hire must have lit a spark underneath the Cavaliers as they came out aggressive on both sides of the court while also playing cohesively throughout much of the game as they shot over 50% both from the field as well as from behind the three-point arch.
And while the Cavs allowed the Hawks to shoot 53% from the floor, they created 22 turnovers compared to committing only 13 for the game. The Cavs went up by two points at the half but outscored the Hawks 78-57 in the second half to blow the game open. Cleveland improved to 10-1 under Drew, who filled in as acting coach last year as Lue recovered from health issues. Kevin Love continues to be out with a foot injury and no timetable has been given to his return.
How Denver Nuggets & Cleveland Cavaliers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Denver is 4-2 ATS while the OU is 2-4
Cleveland is 4-3 ATS while the OU is 5-2
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The Nuggets move on to face a struggled Cavs team that received some confidence and momentum in their last outing as they were able to pick up a much-needed win over the Atlanta Hawks. Nonetheless, they will soon come back down to earth as the Nuggets, as stated, continue to play well while their players continue to step up in both the offense and defensive side of the ball. With that being said, it will be interesting to see how the first win of the year for the Cavs impact their play in this matchup on Thursday.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Denver Nuggets
My reason for the pick :
I will back Denver in this contest as I see them coming out focused versus a Cleveland team that is not only shorthanded, but, one that is also going through a major coaching transition. In other words, Drew will instill a different type of philosophy to get the most out of his players. With that being said, despite their win in their last time out, the home team will indeed struggle in the coming weeks in acclimating themselves to play the way in which Drew requires. Of course, the Nuggets will take advantage of this transition as they will come out with the win.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
I like the under in this contest as the Nuggets as it has been the play in four of their first six games of the season. Also, with them possessing much of the momentum due to their stellar play thus far, look for them to control the pace for much of this game. Furthermore, with the more talented squad, they will lock down this Cleveland offense as the total will certainly not surpass its set limit for this contest on Thursday night.
