Detroit Pistons vs Atlanta Hawks
The Atlanta Hawks will play host to the Detroit Pistons at the State Farm Arena in what is an Eastern Conference matchup. The Detroit Pistons started the season off on fire but they have since slowed down while the Atlanta Hawks are all in on their youth movement.
Detroit Pistons's Latest Performance :
The Detroit Pistons got off to one of the best starts in the NBA as they raced out to a 3-0 start with an impressive win over Philadelphia, but the train has since slowed up as Blake Griffin and company entered their current road trip losers of 5 straight games. We know how good of a player Blake Griffin truly is as we saw flashes of excellence in Los Angeles but the start to 2018 has been an MVP start as he has put up some great numbers. Griffin leads the Pistons in PPG with 28.1 but on top of that, he averages a double-double as he contributes another 11.3 RPG. His twin tower partner in Andre Drummond has been as equally impressive as the big man has contributed 18.4 PPG and averages 16.3 RPG. With these two guys putting up the numbers they have been putting up you would think the Pistons would be contenders in a weak east but they lack perimeter shooting which is essential in today’s day and age. Dwane Casey needs to find a way to get 2nd-year sharpshooter Luke Kennard going as the SG out of Duke is only averaging 5.7 PPG in the 14.3 minutes he is seeing a game off the bench. The Pistons started off the week with a hard-fought overtime loss at home against the Miami Heat 120-115 but on the positive side, they received a good amount of scoring from their starters as Drummond and Reggie Jackson led the team with 25 points followed by Griffin who contributed 24 and Ish Smith who dropped 21. Drummond had a monster game in the 44 minutes he played as he not only scored 25 points but he grabbed an additional 24 rebounds.
Atlanta Hawks's Latest Performance :
NBA fans were in shock when the Atlanta Hawks traded Luka Donic to the Mavericks in exchange for the sensational rookie out of Oklahoma in Trae Young, but Young has silenced the critics as he leads the Hawks in PPG with 19.1 as well as in APG with that number sitting at 7.9. Atlanta got yet another amazing performance out of Trae Young in their 123-118 win over the Miami Heat in a home matchup on November 3rd as the electric PG dropped a double-double with 24 points and 15 assists. One of the other 1st round drafts picks for the Atlanta Hawks, Kevin Heurter, also had a nice game himself as the sharpshooter from Maryland contributed 12 points off the bench. The Hawks have been impressive to this point even if they are well under .500 as they have been receiving contribution from almost every player on the team. In the Hawks win over Miami they had 7 different guys touch double-digits in points as well as had 11 guys with over 6 points. The one knock on the Hawks this year is the fact that their defense has been almost non-existent as they sit towards the bottom of the NBA in points allowed as opponents are averaging 120.2 PPG. This may be the way that the NBA is trending (All Offense, No Defense) but if they ever want to make a push for the playoffs and compete against teams like Boston, Milwaukee, and Indiana (Top 5 defenses) they will need to amp up their play on the defensive side of things.

Against The Spread Selection: Atlanta Hawks
My reason for the pick :
The Eastern Conference is up for grabs this year with LeBron on the West Coast but none of these teams are sure locks to even make the playoffs in what may be the weakest conference in my recent memory. The Atlanta Hawks are trying to develop their young superstar Trae Young but at the same time, they are allowing him to run the team and have given him the green light to shoot from anywhere on the court. The Hawks also have some other solid players in Dwayne Dedmon, Taurean Prince, and Jeremy Lin to supplement the 3 first round picks of 2018. The Pistons will be hard to guard down low but the Hawks also have some shooters from the outside and in retrospect 3 is better than 2. Expect the Hawks to play some inspired basketball on their home court as they should beat the Pistons.
