Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Indiana Pacers vs Miami Heat
The Miami Heat will continue their homestand at American Airlines Arena as they will welcome in Eastern Conference foe in the Indiana Pacers. Miami is a fringe playoff team that lacks that superstar power to get over the hump while the Pacers are riding the high wave as they sit in the top half of the Eastern Conference.
Indiana Pacers's Latest Performance :
The Indiana Pacers arrived on the scene last year when they pushed LeBron James and the Cavilers to the brink in the opening round of the Eastern Conference playoffs, and we are now seeing them peak with LeBron out of the east. Victor Oladipo made his case last year as one of the most improved players in the NBA as the SG out of Indiana has thrived on his 3rd team in as many as 3 years. Oladipo leads the Pacers in PPG as he is sitting at 23 as well as contributing 7.2 RPG. His trade partner Domantas Sabonis has also been peaking in his new home as the big man is contributing 13.9 PPG and 8.7 RPG off the bench. The thing that has made the Pacers a tough opponent to go against is the fact that they have 5 guys averaging double-digit points with 2 more guys following right behind with 9.9 PPG and 9.5 PPG. The Pacers started this week off with a loss in a tough battle against one of the Western Conference favorites, the Houston Rockets, 98-94. Oladipo led the charge for the Pacers as he chipped in 28 points, but the one problem for the Pacers has been receiving contribution out of their starting center Myles Turner who only scored 7 points and brought down 2 rebounds in over 23 minutes of playing time.
Miami Heat's Latest Performance :
The Miami Heat still haven’t recovered from the post-big 3 era as they have yet to obtain a big name superstar or reach the level of success they once endured, and nothing has changed this year as they are once again fighting the .500 mark. The Miami Heat have been a score by committee type of team this year but the one name at the top may surprise your average basketball fan as Josh Richardson leads the team with 21.4 PPG. Richardson is a young SG and was in the bulk of trade discussions this summer but Richardson is putting together a nice year on both ends of the floor which may secure his future with the Heat. Hassan Whiteside is having a nice year down low as the center is averaging a double-double with 12.4 PPG and 14.6 RPG. The Heat were able to open up the week with a nice win as they triumphed the Pistons on the road, 120-115 in OT. Richardson led the way with 27 but Goran Dragic and Dwyane Wade supplemented the SG nicely as they combined for 39 points. Erik Spoelstra has always been a defense first coach and if the Heat want any chance of competing in the East they will have to improve their 18th ranked scoring defense.

Against The Spread Selection: Indiana Pacers
My reason for the pick :
The Indiana Pacers are one of the few teams in the Eastern Conference who we see as true contenders for the NBA finals and the Miami Heat are still between being contenders and tanking. The Pacers have received scoring from both their starters and the bench players as well as have one of the best defenses in the NBA which is one of the reasons Indiana may find themselves on top of the east at the end of the year. Oladipo will probably be guarded by Josh Richardson which will be a fun matchup to watch but ultimately I see Oladipo using his court vision and having a big game dishing out the ball to the likes of Turner, Bogdanovic, and Collison. Take Indiana to win on the road as they continue to coast to the top of the Eastern Conference.
