Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Orlando Magic vs New York Knicks
The New York Knicks are set to return home to Madison Square Garden after a short 2 game road trip and they will welcome in Eastern Conference foe in the Atlanta Hawks. The New York Knicks and the Atlanta Hawks are both trying to start from scratch as they have kicked off a full rebuild with their young 2018 1st round picks being penciled in as the future.
Orlando Magic's Latest Performance :
The Orlando Magic have a solid foundation to build their team on as they have an abundance of big men to throw on the court but the one thing they are slacking early on in the season is guard play, something that needs to be addressed if they want any chance of being competitive. The Magic don’t have one scorer who is averaging over 20+ PPG but they do have 3 different guys who average over 15+ PPG which proves they are a score by committee team. The leading scorer for the Magic is their starting center Nikola Vucevic who is averaging 17.5 PPG as well as leading the team in rebounds as he is averaging 10.4 RPG. The 2018 1st round pick out of Texas Mo Bamba has been coming off the bench where he is averaging 6.1 PPG and 5.6 RPG. One player that the Magic want to see more out of is Aaron Gordon who signed a 4-year 76 million dollar contract this past offseason. Gordon has been playing average at best as the PF is only averaging 16 PPG and 8.2 RPG which is down from last year as he was averaging 17.6 PPG. The Magic lost their recent matchup at home against the Detroit Pistons as they were outscored 25-16 in the 4th quarter. Evan Fournier led the way for the Magic as the starting SG dropped 27 points in 31 minutes. Rookie Mo Bamba was only able to drop 2 points in over 14 minutes of playing time, a number Magic fans want to see increase in the coming games.
New York Knicks's Latest Performance :
The New York Knicks are missing one of the top players in the NBA as Kristapas Prozingis is still recovering from an ACL tear which was suffered in 2017, but they have made do with what they have. The Knicks were looking to depend on their 2018 1st round pick Kevin Knox but the rookie out of Kentucky has played in less than half of the games this season due to injury. Stepping up in the absence of Prozingis and Knox has been SG Tim Hardaway Jr. who is averaging 24.3 PPG which is a team-high. Enes Kanter is having a solid season down low for the New York Knicks as the center is averaging a double-double with 15.4 PPG and 11.7 RPG. One of the rookies who has been a high point for the Knicks is the undrafted rookie out of Arizona Alonzo Trier. Trier has been a solid piece off the bench as the SG is averaging 11.9 PPG, the highest out of any undrafted free agent rookie this season. The Knicks were able to obtain a nice win over the Atlanta Hawks on the road earlier on in the week as they were led by none other than Tim Hardaway Jr. The 6th-year SG out of Michigan was able to drop 34 points on his former team and rookie Alonzo Trier was also able to have a nice game himself as he dropped 16 points. The New York Knicks are hoping that the integration of Kevin Knox back into the rotation will help the New York Knicks pick up a little more steam in the Eastern Conference.

Against The Spread Selection: New York Knicks
My reason for the pick :
The New York Knicks and the Orlando Magic are nowhere near playoff potential but one of these teams has more potential than the other and that is the New York Knicks. When the New York Knicks are able to get back a healthy Prozingis and Knox as well as have Hardaway maintain the level of play he currently is experiencing we have a team who can push for the 8 seed. The Knicks should have no problem winning at home against the Magic because they have good scorers in Hardaway and Kanter as well as have an electric Trier coming off the bench. The Magic just don’t have enough firepower especially from behind the arc to hang with a stingy NY team. Take the Knicks at home.
