Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Miami Heat vs Brooklyn Nets

The Miami Heat will travel to Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, to battle the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday night at 7:30 pm EST.  The Heat are slipping fast as they have dropped their last three games with their last defeat coming at the hands of the Philadelphia 76’ers by a 124-114 score at home as Goran Dragic led the team with 22 points and five assists with the Heat shooting 48% for the night in the loss.

The Nets were losers of their second straight game due to a 120-113 road loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night as Brooklyn wasted a 31-point night for DeAngelo Russell in defeat.  The under has been the play in the last four games in Brooklyn amongst these teams while the Heat is 19-7 ATS in the last 26 games at Barclays Center.

Miami Heat 's Latest Performance :

The Heat certainly played well enough to win versus the Sixers in their last time out, however, 15 turnovers for the game provided them no help at all in their efforts as they suffered the ten-point loss in the end.  The Heat had six players in double figures in the matchup as Dragic led with 22 points and five dimes while Josh Richardson had 17 points including five three pointers on a night where the Heat hit 13 out of 31 three-point attempts.

Nonetheless, the Heat have dropped three straight games and will certainly be looking to get back into the win column over a suddenly struggling Brooklyn Nets team coming off a grinding west coast trip.  The Heat is only 1-2 SU on the road this year while also being 1-2 ATS during this time.  Unfortunately, while their offense continues to click on the road, their defense seems to be nonexistent as they have allowed 121 points away from American Airlines Arena.

Brooklyn Nets's Latest Performance :

After winning three straight at one point, the Brooklyn Nets have temporarily fallen to mediocrity in losing two straight games due to a seven-point loss on the road to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night.   In fact, after going 2-0 to begin a four-game road trip, the Nets lost their last two games to Golden State along with the Timberwolves a night later.  They now return home after two days off to face the Miami Heat before going back on the road to face the Washington Wizards on Friday night.

And while the offense has struggled at times for the Nets this year, they have certainly been able to hit the three ball as they are ranked 9th in the league in hitting 37% from the arc.  Russell hit nine of 15 three pointers versus the T’Wolves yet Jeff Teague, Derrick Rose, along with Karl Anthony Towns each had 20-point efforts with Teague and Rose combining for 17 attempts while Towns pulling down 16 boards for the contest to allow them the win.  For the season, Brooklyn is allowing teams to shoot 46% from the floor along with 36% from three-point range.  They will certainly want to guard the perimeter much better against a Heat team that is ranked 6th in the league in three-point percentage with 37% per outing.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This game will be essential for both teams as they have had a rough patch lately.  Brooklyn, as stated, is coming off a west coast trip in which to play Miami at home before playing three of their next four games on the road.  The Heat, on the other hand, will suit up to face Brooklyn on the road while preparing themselves for another road contest versus the Pacers on Friday night.  In all, look for both teams to come out focused on getting a win, however, look for the offenses to come out a bit sluggish as this has been the case all year.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Miami Heat

My reason for the pick :

I will back the Heat in this contest in that they will certainly want to erase the memory of their last home stand to where they loss the last three games, overall.  The Nets did not perform well on their prior three game road trip, however, they will be looking to play much better at home.  The problem will be their inability to guard the perimeter on defense.  With a team in Miami that is feasting on the three pointer, this will certainly hurt them severely.  It is for this reason that I will back the road team in this contest.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the under in this instance as both offenses have struggled to get going lately.  With that being said, look for this to be the case after the last few meetings for both teams as they were each not able to maintain consistency in this area throughout the game.  And with both teams looking to step up even more on the defensive end due to their lack of consistent offensive output, expect the score to remain low and manageable for either team to possibly pull out a victory.

  • Over is 5-0 in Heat last 5 games following a straight up loss.
