Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Toronto Raptors vs Atlanta Hawks

The Toronto Raptors will remain on the road as they travel to State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, to face the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Both teams have had rough patches in which to endure as of late, however, Atlanta has lost their last eight games while the Toronto Raptors recently halted a three-game losing streak by blowing out the Chicago Bulls in game 2 of a four-game road trip on November 17th. In this outing, the Raptors were able to put in a total team effort with Kawhi Leonard sitting out in which to pick up the much-needed victory. Fred Van Vleet scored 18 points in the win for the Raptors while Danny Green and Serge Ibaka scored 17 and 16 points, respectively.

On the other hand the Atlanta Hawks continued their losing streak in falling by a 127 – 119 score at home versus the Los Angeles Clippers in their last outing. The Hawks came out on fire to begin the game yet would fall behind in the fourth quarter as the Clippers outscored the home team 38-23 during this time. Nonetheless, both teams will certainly be looking to come out focused on getting a win in this matchup.

Toronto Raptors's Latest Performance :

After losing two straight games at home, the Toronto Raptors took to the road for a four game road trip and quickly ran into a buzzsaw as they were edged in overtime on the road by the Boston Celtics by a 123 – 116 score on November 16th while following this up with a 122 – 83 win in the second game of a back-to-back versus the Chicago Bulls. With that being said, look for the Raptors to have a bit of confidence heading into this matchup versus the lowly Atlanta Hawks.

As stated, Kawhi Leonard is currently sitting out due to unknown reasons, however, he should be expected back in the lineup soon from reports. With that being said, the Raptors  will indeed need to continue playing winning basketball as this means solid ball distribution as well as playing outstanding team defense in which to continue picking up wins until their star is back in the lineup. In his absence, however, Van Vleet has been excellent in his play while Ibaka and Green have also stepped up in the absence of Leonard in the lineup. It is for this reason that I expect the Raptors to give a solid effort on this night as they will certainly be looking to continue their winning ways.

Atlanta Hawks's Latest Performance :

Trae Young has been the bright spot for the Hawks this season as he is averaging 17 points along with seven assists per outing for an Atlanta team that simply cannot get things right on offense. During their  7 game losing streak, the Hawks have had consistent off nights on the offensive end while their defense has not been much better as they are currently ranked 30th in the league in allowing 119 points per game to their opponents per outing. With that being the case, in a game to where the Hawks outshot the Clippers both from the field  along with from the three-point arc, the Clippers were still able to rally from a 16-point deficit to where they trailed 87-72 in the third quarter to go on a 20-4 run to take a 97-96 lead early in the fourth.

Of course, this run served to destroy the Hawks chances of getting a win in the end. In spite of this, the Hawks look to right the ship at home versus the Toronto Raptors, a team that will be on their second game of a back-to-back on Wednesday night.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Look for this game to be an interesting matchup on Wednesday night as the Hawks will look to kick off a three-game homestand versus the Toronto Raptors in which to erase the remnants of an awful 0-3 road trip to which they are returning from. On the other hand, the Raptors will be in game 3 of a  current road trip to where they will face the Hawks on the second end of a back-to-back. Needless to say, they will certainly be looking to pick up a victory over Hawks team that is struggling on both ends of the court at this time.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:   Toronto Raptors

My reason for the pick :

The Hawks have simply struggled much too much this year in which to take seriously, and while Trae young has been the bright spot for the team thus far in the season, he is prone to making mistakes as well as he is a young talent that will certainly need some  hands-on experience in which to refine his game. With that being said, the Raptors are coming into this game looking to definitely play better after the halted a 3 game losing streak with their win over the Bulls. In all, expect the Raptors to come out focused on playing hard as they will certainly want to take out the Hawks early in which to allow some time for their starters to rest for the next match up.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

With the way that both defenses have played lately in giving up points much more than often, I will still back the under in this contest as I believe that the Raptors performance versus the Bulls will certainly propel them to have a similar performance against a struggling Hawks team on Wednesday night. Look for the unit for Toronto to really be aggressive versus the Hawks early due to the fact that, as stated, this will be the second game of a back-to-back. It is for this reason that the Raptors will certainly want to end this game as early as often. Nonetheless, the total will certainly remain low as this  will be a low scoring, defensive minded affair throughout.

  • Raptors are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games playing on 0 days rest.
Under is 5-0 in Raptors last 5 vs. a team with a losing straight up record.
Raptors are 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400.
