Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Orlando Magic vs Denver Nuggets

The Orlando Magic will travel to Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado, to face the Denver Nuggets on Friday night at 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Orlando Magic ended a stellar three game winning streak as they fell in a close outing at home versus the Toronto Raptors by a 93-91 score. In a close and competitive match up throughout, each team shot horribly from the field, however Kawhi Leonard returned to the Raptors lineup and led the team with 18 points in the much-needed victory.

On the other hand, the Denver Nuggets snapped a two-game losing streak by picking up a victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves by a slim, 103 – 101 score as Paul Millsap was the star of the game for Denver as he finished with 25 points while going 11-13 for the night.   The Magic have not done very well against the spread in their last 15 meetings at Pepsi Center as they are 4-11 during this time. On the other hand, the over has been the play in four of the last 5 meetings, overall, versus these teams.

Orlando Magic's Latest Performance :

Despite Orlando’s loss to Toronto at home in their last outing, the Magic continues to be winners of three of their last four games while also a half game out of first place in the Southeastern division of the Eastern Conference. With that being the case, the offense for Orlando had a bad night versus the Raptors as they only shot 40% from the field while nailing only 8 – 33 three point attempts. Aaron Gordon, the Magic’s leading scorer, struggled during this matchup in going 5-15 from the field for the game with only 16 points. Evan Fournier led the team in scoring with 27 for the game while going 11-20 for the night. Nikola Vucevic also had an effective game in putting up 14 points along with grabbing 18 boards in the loss.

This has been the norm for Orlando as they have thrived due to their cohesiveness on the court along with their ability to play effective team defense at critical points in the game. In fact, the Magic is ranked 9th in the league in allowing just 108 points per game to their opponents. In all, look for them to seek to continue their stellar play while atoning for a close loss versus the Raptors in the last outing. Nonetheless, they will attempt to do so versus a Denver defense that is equally as solid.

Denver Nuggets's Latest Performance :

The Denver Nuggets certainly had a quick start to their season  as they went 6 – 0 out of the gate while showing much potential in young stars such as Gary Harris snd Jamal Murray along with savvy veterans such as Paul Millsap and newcomer Juancho Hernangomez  in the lineup. Nonetheless, they were met with a rough patch recently and have now lost six of their last eight games, overall, and desperately seeking yet another win in which to build confidence equaling that which they possessed to begin the season.

They certainly accomplished their goal in their last matchup versus the Minnesota Timberwolves as they shot 47% from the field while also going 40% from 3 point range as Murray went 4-8 for the night and ending with 18 points in the win. Harrison finished the game going 1-8 from the three-point arc, but, finished with 17 points on the night on only 7-16 shooting.

And why the Denver offense has been hit-or-miss all season long their defense is something that they have prided themselves on throughout this young season. In fact, the nuggets are ranked 4th in the league in points allowed with 104 points per game And have done their best to limit  the number of opportunities that teams have on the offensive end on a nightly basis. With that being said, they will certainly be looking to neutralize and Orlando offense that continues to get better while continuing to possess a young nucleus of talented and athletic players.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

It will be interesting to see how the Orlando Magic  plays in this game. In other words, the Magic has played well this season and going up against a Denver squad that is looking to build from the momentum of edging the Minnesota Timberwolves will certainly be very difficult. With that being the case, look for both teams to come out motivated to play as Orlando would like to continue its ability to get contributions from several different players on a nightly basis while the Denver Nuggets will look to continue to develop their offensive game while relying mostly on their defensive prowess in which to neutralize opponents on offense.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Denver Nuggets

My reason for the pick :

As stated, the Orlando Magic has done well for themselves thus far in the season season, however, I will have to back the Denver Nuggets in this matchup as they  desperately needed a win in their last outing versus the Timberwolves to which they certainly made this happen. With that being the case, expect him to come into this game with a lot of confidence and momentum in which to pick up yet another victory. I happen to think that their defense will have a solid night versus an Orlando offense that seems to really labor at times.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

I will certainly pick the under in this game as both offenses are known to struggle at times during games while the defenses continue to remain solid night in and night out. It all, look for the total to not surpass its limit in this game as I see and expect a low-scoring and competitive match up throughout.
