Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
San Antonio Spurs vs Indiana Pacers
The reeling San Antonio Spurs will travel to Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, to take on the Indiana Pacers on Friday night at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Spurs are losers of five of their last six games along with two straight as they suffered the 104 – 103 home loss to the Memphis Grizzlies in their last outing as Mike Conley and Marc Gasol scored 30 and 20 points, respectively, to lead the Grizzlies to victory as they were allowed to shoot 48% from the field for the night.
On the other hand, the Indiana Pacers halted a 3 game winning streak as they were blown out on the road versus the Charlotte Hornets by a 127 – 109 score as their defense allowed six double-digit scores for the Hornets during the game while Bojan Bogdanovic led the team in scoring with 20 points in defeat. The under has been to play in four of the last five meetings between these teams in Indiana while the Spurs have not covered the spread in the last four meetings versus the Pacers in Indianapolis, overall.
San Antonio Spurs's Latest Performance :
Game 1 of a four-game road trip for the San Antonio Spurs will begin in Indianapolis on Friday night as they seek to right the ship after a rough patch of games to where they lost two straight due to a 104 – 103 home defeat to a physical Memphis Grizzlies squad. LaMarcus Aldridge would certainly struggle due to the physicality of the Grizzlies as he would go 6 of 20 for the night while finishing with 19 points along with 11 rebounds. DeMar DeRozan led the team with 24 points and a team-high 5 assists. For the game, the Spurs only shot 43% while allowing the Grizzlies to shoot 48% from the field as this certainly proved to be the difference in the game.
At this time, it looks as if the San Antonio Spurs are simply not getting the most out of their offensive weapons. Of course, DeRozan has been dangerous for the Spurs this year as he leads the team in scoring with 25 points per outing; However, Aldridge continues to struggle on the block and until he is able to come out of his funk, the Spurs will indeed continue to struggle as well. They will seek to end their losing streak on the road where they are winless in their last 4 games versus an Indiana team that, despite their last loss in a blowout versus Charlotte, remains confident while continuing to hold on to some momentum after a three-game winning streak prior to their last debacle.
Indiana Pacers's Latest Performance :
Despite their last loss to the Charlotte Hornets, the Indiana Pacers have had a pretty decent season thus far as they have had to rely on a solid defensive unit in which to allow them to stay in games while remaining competitive. With that being said, their offense has been a bit shaky throughout the season as they are ranked 26th in points scored per outing. This could very well be due to the fact that their star, Victor Oladipo, remains on the injured list with a knee injury without a specified date of return. It is for this reason that the Pacers have indeed struggled at times in an effort to replace that type of production.
The Pacers came into their last matchup versus the Charlotte Hornets winners of three straight games, however, yet, the Hornets would go on a third-quarter run while outscoring the Indiana Pacers by a 37-24 score during the quarter as this essentially sealed the victory for the home team. The Pacers had seven double-digit scores versus Charlotte led by Bogdanovich with 20 while Thaddeus Young & Doug McDermott scored 16 and 15 points respectively, for the Pacers who shot 49% for the game yet allowed the Hornets to shoot 57% from the floor.
The 127 points Indiana allowed to Charlotte was not only the most points that the Pacers have allowed in their last 10 games altogether, but, was the first time in four outings that the Pacers allowed 100 or more points, overall.
How San Antonio Spurs & Indiana Pacers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
San Antonio is 8-9 ATS while the OU is 9 – 8
Indiana is 9 – 9 ATS while the OU is 9 – 9
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Indiana will now come home looking to atone for a blowout loss versus a tough Charlotte Hornets team on the road and will certainly be facing a formidable opponent in the San Antonio Spurs as they will be seeking to come out of their early-season funk in which to get a much-needed win. Look for this game to be very competitive throughout as both teams will be focused on getting a huge win, however, also look for this to be a very slow paced game as the Spurs will certainly look to get Aldridge back on track after a rough set of outings. On the other hand, the Pacers will look to run the offense as well as they continue to rely on a balanced scoring attack while their star continues to heal from a knee injury.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: San Antonio Spurs
My reason for the pick :
The Spurs have played horribly on the road this year, however, I will back them in this matchup as I happen to believe that the Pacers will soon begin to feel the effects of the absence of Oladipo. Of course, Bogdanovich and others have stepped up very well in place of the production lost by Oladipo; Nonetheless, I do not think that Indiana can keep this production up over time. With that being the case, look for the Spurs to come in to Indianapolis and get a well-deserved victory as they will intend to test the highly ranked defense of the Indiana Pacers by utilizing Aldrigde on the block even more in which two dominate.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
I happened to see this as a low-scoring affair amongst these teams as the San Antonio Spurs offense has struggled while Indiana’s offense has also been hit or miss lately. Combine this with the fact that they will be matching up versus two average to above-average defenses, look for DeRozan & Company along with Bogdanovich and friends to both struggle in this contest. In all, the under will certainly be the strong play in this matchup due to the defensive prowess of both teams.
