Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Indiana Pacers vs Utah Jazz
The Indiana Pacers will travel to Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City Utah, to battle the Utah Jazz on Monday night at 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Utah Jazz are coming off their third straight loss due to a 90-83 road loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on November 23rd as they would struggle once again from the field in shooting 38% from the night while Alec Burks and Joe Ingles led the team with 17 and 16 points, respectively, in the loss.
On the other hand, the Indiana Pacers also dropped their second straight game as they were 111 – 100 home losers to the reeling San Antonio Spurs in their last outing as they allowed the Spurs to shoot over 50% from the field while nearly 47% from the three-point arc for the night. The Pacers offense, on the other hand, shot only 12.5% from 3 point range in nailing only three of 25 attempts.
Indiana Pacers's Latest Performance :
After winning three straight games, the Indiana Pacers have now dropped two straight as they are beginning to show signs of suffering due to their leader being out due to injury. And while it is unclear if Victor Oladipo will indeed start for the Pacers in this match up, one thing is for certain: The team must be able to play more effectively on the offensive end moving forward, or, they will likely begin to slide even more in a division that includes an outstanding Milwaukee’s Bucks squad along with an up-and-coming Detroit Pistons team that has played well lately.
The Pacers allowed the Spurs to have a coming out party, of sorts, as they shot 51% for the night while also going 41% from 3 point range. LaMarcus Aldridge, who has struggled recently, ended the game with a team-high 33 points along with 14 rebounds while DeMar DeRozan ended with 16 points along with six assists with Patty Mills having 15 in the win.The Pacers, however, maintain their balance offensive attack as six players scored in double-digits with Bojan Bogdanovic leading the team with 21 points while Domantas Sabonis continued his dominant play while chipping in 19 points along with 16 rebounds and four assists for Indiana.
Also, the Pacers also had trouble getting to the free-throw line as they only shot nine free throws for the contest compared to 24 for San Antonio. On the other hand, the Pacers could not able to convert even when given the opportunity at the free throw line all night as they shot 51% for the game. In all, Indiana was certainly need to clean up their act if they are too be more of a force within the Eastern Conference this year. Of course, this will start with controlling the pace of the game versus a Utah team that is also struggling on both ends of the court at this point in the season.
Utah Jazz's Latest Performance :
The Utah Jazz continued their struggles on offense versus the Los Angeles Lakers in their last match up as Ricky Rubio ( 3 – 12), Donovan Mitchell ( 2 – 9), along with Jae Crowder ( 2 – 12) all struggled versus a Lakers team that allowed them to shoot only 38% on the night from the field. The defense for Utah, on the other hand, allowed Brandon Ingram and LeBron James to score 24 and 22 points, respectively, in the win as James also had 10 rebounds along with seven assists for Los Angeles. And while the Jazz defense has been solid all year long, as their offense struggles, their defense has also paid the price in that they entered their matchup with the Lakers allowing 121 and 119 points to the last two opponents, overall.
With that being the case, look for the Jazz to distribute the ball much more in this matchup in which two allow for Mitchell to get going as he leads the team in scoring with 20 points per game. Nonetheless, this will not be an easy task as the Indiana Pacers come into this game with the 2nd ranked defense in the league in allowing just 102 points per game to their opponents on 44% shooting on the night, good for seventh in the NBA.
How Indiana Pacers & Utah Jazz Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Indiana is 9 – 10 ATS while the OU is 10 – 9
Utah is 8 – 11 ATS while the OU is 12 – 7
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This will be an interesting matchup in that you will have two teams that are desperately looking to get a win after struggling on both sides of the ball recently. The Utah Jazz star in Mitchell has been pedestrian lately and really needs to get back on track in this matchup while the Indiana Pacers must somehow continue their balance scoring attack while also continuing to play solid defense. The problem for the Pacers is that they have not been able to make critical stops at pivotal points in games, thus lowering their chances of picking up a much-needed victory. With that being the case, look for this to be an interesting and exciting match up as both teams will certainly bring the focus and intensity in what will be an all-important match up on Monday night.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Utah Jazz
My reason for the pick :
As I stated, the Pacers will certainly suffer at some point due to the injury to Oladipo. The Indiana Pacers will certainly bring their focus into every game, however, the absence of one of the most consistent point guards in the league is beginning to show its impact. And while the Pacers have enjoyed a balanced offensive attack with Bogdanovich continuing to play solid on the offensive end, I will look for the Utah Jazz to outshine Indiana on offense in this matchup as they certainly seem to play much better at home as opposed to on the road. On the other hand, the Pacers are 0-2 in their last two road games while allowing their opponents to score an average of 122 points in each loss.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
And while I feel as though each team will put some points on the board, primarily, the home team, I will also expect the under to be the strong play in this matchup as one will be witnessing two of the top defenses in the league battle two shaky offenses that have certainly stunk it up from the field lately. With that being said, look for the total to remain well below its set limit for this game as both defenses will take center stage throughout what will be in exciting contest.
