Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Atlanta Hawks vs Charlotte Hornets

The Atlanta Hawks will travel to Spectrum Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, to battle of the up-and-coming Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. This will be a rematch from a November 25th win for the Atlanta Hawks as they picked up the much-needed 124 – 123 home win over Charlotte as the Hawks outshot the Hornets throughout the game while also having six players score in double digits with John Collins leading the team with 23 points along with 10 rebounds while Kent Bazemore went 9 of 11 for the night with 20 points to lead the Hawks.

On the other hand, the Charlotte Hornets are coming off a momentum building home win over the Milwaukee Bucks on November 26th as they picked up the 110 – 107 win by buckling down on the defensive end and limiting the Bucks to just 41% shooting on the night. Jeremy Lamb along with Kemba Walker scored 21 points each for Charlotte in the victory. The Hawks have only covered the spread in one of the last nine meetings in Charlotte while the under has been the play in six of the last seven meetings amongst these two teams in Charlotte.

Atlanta Hawks's Latest Performance :

The Hawks ended a long losing streak in their last outing by picking up a 124 – 123 home win over the Charlotte Hornets in their last time out, as stated. Shooting 50% from the field for the night while making good on 16-29 3-point attempts for the night will certainly be something that the Hawks can build upon for this contest on Wednesday.  Charlotte, on the other hand, made 19 threes on the night yet shot 44% from the field for the night as Kemba Walker shot 7-23 from the floor yet led the team in scoring with 22 points.

For the Hawks, John Collins led the team with 23 points along with 10 rebounds while Trae young ended with 18 points, 5 assists, along with five costly turnovers in the win for Atlanta.  In all, the Hawks put on a defensive show of their own versus Charlotte in their last outing as the road team certainly struggled throughout the night on both ends of the floor. For this matchup, the Hawks will look to established themselves on the defensive end in which to allow this game to remain competitive and, most importantly, within reach.

Charlotte Hornets's Latest Performance :

While Walker and Lamb paced the Charlotte Hornets in their last win versus the Milwaukee Bucks,  Michael Kidd-Gilchrist returned from an ankle injury during this matchup and certainly provided a spark in scoring just seven points along with seven rebounds; However, his energy on both sides of the court that sparked a defensive effort that allowed the Milwaukee Bucks to shoot only 41% for the night while allowing Giannis Antetokounmpo only 20 points on the night  along with 13 rebounds and 9 assists.

In fact, this was the best defensive effort for Charlotte in their last eight games as they allowed only 107 points to Milwaukee in the matchup. On the other hand, their offense shot 47% for the night while nailing 13 of 29 3-point attempts on the night en route to the victory. In other words, Charlotte was able to rebound perfectly  after a deflating loss versus the Atlanta Hawks on the road in their prior outing. They will now look too exact a bit of revenge on the still struggling Atlanta Hawks that comes into this matchup on two days rest.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Charlotte Hornets

My reason for the pick :

Look for the Hornets to continue their winning ways versus the Atlanta Hawks at home on Wednesday night as they will certainly provide a bit of payback in the meantime. As stated, the Hornets will look to establish themselves offensively in this matchup while also  playing much better perimeter defense on the Hawks than they did in the first match up only a few days ago. In all, expect the home team to jump out to an early lead while  separating themselves over the course of the game in what should be an easy victory.

Totals Selection: Pick: Over

My reason for the prediction :

The over has been the result in three of the last four home games for the Hornets while also being the play in three of the last four games for the Hawks as well. With that being the case, look for some points to be scored in this matchup as I see it as being an up and down contest throughout with both teams capitalizing off their ability to push the pace. The total will indeed go over it set limit for this matchup in favor of the home team as the Hornets will have a solid night on the offensive end while the Hawks will continue its losing ways despite a decent effort on offense.
