Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Dallas Mavericks vs Houston Rockets

The Dallas Mavericks will travel to Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, to battle the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Mavericks are coming off their second  straight win as they were able to pick up a 113 – 104 home win versus the Boston Celtics in their last time out as they shot 39% from 3 point range as Harrison Barnes ended the game going 5-8 from the arc while leading the team with 20 points. On the other hand, the Mavericks allowed the Celtics to shoot 48% for the night, in turn, yet the Mavericks had 27 total assists for the night in the win.

On the other hand, the Houston Rockets have suddenly found themselves losers of three straight games after winning five in a row with a 135 – 131 road loss to the Washington Wizards in what turned out to be a disastrous 3 game road trip.  The Rockets got 54 points from James Harden, however, in the loss while Eric Gordon pumped in 36 points as well. Clint Capella ended the game with 17 points along with 14 rebounds yet the Rockets could not buckle down on the defensive end as they allowed the Wizards to shoot 57% from the field for the night.  In all, the under has been to play in the last four meetings in Houston amongst these squads while the Mavericks have covered the spread in only one of the last six meetings, overall, versus Houston.

Dallas Mavericks's Latest Performance :

The Dallas Mavericks have certainly been the opposite of the Houston Rockets as they have  one six of their last seven games, overall, while also winning two straight games with their last victory being versus the Boston Celtics in their last time out. In this matchup, Dallas continued their hot shooting  in going 48% from the floor on the night; Nonetheless, they allowed the Boston Celtics to also shoot 47% from the field, thus allowing the game to remain close for much of the contest.  The Mavericks, however, hit 16 3-point attempts for the night compared to only 10 for the Celtics which also gave the home team a huge lift in getting the victory.

JJ Barea and Wesley Matthews were instrumental in this contest as they both hit consecutive 3-pointers which pushed the lead to 106 – 90 in the fourth quarter as Matthews scored 15 points in his first game back from a hamstring injury. The Mavericks will certainly look to add him onto a rotation that already includes a talented mix of players. With that being the case, look for them to establish themselves on the offensive end early versus a Houston Rockets team that have only had their offense in which to rely on recently.

Houston Rockets's Latest Performance :

Chris Paul recently went back on the injured list with a sore knee, thus missing the matchup versus the Washington Wizards. He is uncertain to play versus the Dallas Mavericks as well, which means that the Houston Rockets will likely suffer on the offensive end as a result. Eric Gordon has filled in well in Paul’s absence, however, there has been a noticeable drop-off in terms of overall offensive production due to Paul’s injury. Regardless, the Rockets continue to possess one of the most prolific scorers in James Harden, as he put up 54 points along with having 13 assists  versus the Wizards as he went 17-32 from the field while also hitting 7 three’s on the night.

As stated, Gordon also chipped in 36 points in the loss while Capella also added 17 points and 14 rebounds for Houston, as stated. Nonetheless, the problem lied in Houston’s inability to play consistent team defense throughout the night as the Wizards shot very well from the field all night while also getting 30 plus point nights from John Wall as well as Bradley Beal. In all, the Rockets will certainly want to shore up defensive vulnerabilities as they now face off against a Dallas team that possesses a mix of young and experienced talent that certainly know how to  put the ball in the hoop, in bunches.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Dallas is 12 – 6 ATS while the OU is 10 – 8
Houston is 7 – 11 ATS while the OU is   10 – 8

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will certainly be a Texas showdown as I see both teams having great offensive nights in this contest on Wednesday.  And while the Mavericks are ranked 7th in the league in allowing just 108 points per outing to their opponents this far in the season, they will certainly have their fair share of issues in going up against Harden and a dangerous scoring attack for the Rockets. On the other hand, Dallas also possesses their fair share of weapons and will keep this game close throughout due to Houston’s inability to play any type of defense at critical moments in the game.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Houston Rockets

My reason for the pick :

While the Dallas Mavericks have played well, as stated, look for the Houston Rockets to get back on track at home after a disastrous three-game road trip to where they were winless. Nonetheless, the Houston Rockets are winners in their last four home games as this will certainly continue in this contest as they will pick up a slim victory over a high-scoring Mavericks squad. Look for  Harden and Gordon to lead the way in this matchup as Houston will be looking to establish themselves early on the offensive end by pushing the pace consistently en route to a victory.

Totals Selection: Pick: Over

My reason for the prediction :

The over has been the play in three of the last four games for the Dallas Mavericks while also being the play and three of the last four home games for the Houston Rockets. With that being the case, look for this to be yet another high-scoring matchup for these two talented Texas teams as the total will certainly balloon in favor of the home team late in the game.
