Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Washington Wizards vs New Orleans Pelicans

The Washington Wizards will travel to Smoothie King Arena in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time to face the New Orleans Pelicans in NBA action. The Washington Wizards are now winners of two straight games as they picked up a high-scoring, 135 – 131 home win over the Houston Rockets on November 26th as they outscored the Rockets 10-6 in overtime in which to seal what was an exciting victory throughout.  James Harden ended two rebounds shy of a triple double has he scored 54 points, eight rebounds, along with posting 13 assists on the night while the Wizards were led by Bradley Beal and John Wall who contributed 32 and 36 points, respectively, in the hard fought victory.

On the other hand, the New Orleans Pelicans continue to drop games as they suffered a 124 – 107 home lost to the reeling Boston Celtics on November 26th as they fell down by 13 points after the first quarter while also allowing the Celtics to shoot 50% from the floor while allowing them to rack up 19 three pointers in the contest, as Kyrie  Irving went 5-10 from long range for the contest. In all, the under has been to play in 11 of the last 13 meetings in New Orleans amongst these teams while the Wizards have covered the spread in 13 of the last 16 meetings at Smoothie King Arena..

Washington Wizards's Latest Performance :

The Wizards were able to escape with a home win versus a tough Houston Rockets squad in their last timeout as they got huge baskets from both John Wall and Bradley Beal along with Otto Porter late in the game in which to seal the all-important victory. As stated, they were able to withstand a 50 plus point performance from James Harden in which to win their 2nd straight game along with 3rd and  four outings. With that being the case, the Wizards are certainly looking to extend their winning ways versus a Pelicans squad that can indeed be dangerous on the offensive end, yet will also give up points to opponents on the defensive end as well.

The Wizards offense has been up and down all season long, but, have scored at least 120 points in three of their last four games while their defense has allowed opponents to put up an average of 120 points per game. This, in essence, will certainly be in area to where Washington can certainly improve as they are ranked 29th and 24th in the league in points allowed (118 ppg) along with field goal percentage per outing with 47%. In all, look for the Wizards to perform much better on the defensive end in this matchup, however, it will certainly not be easy with such a dangerous team as the Pelicans as they will certainly be pulling out all the stops in which to halt a current losing streak.

New Orleans Pelicans's Latest Performance :

Anthony Davis bought the Pelicans back within reach of taking the lead versus the Boston Celtics in their last outing; However, Kyrie Irving hit a few big shots along with a huge three-pointer in which to seal the victory for a struggling Boston Celtics team that desperately needed a win. And while Davis scored 27 points on the night along with 16 rebounds, Nikola Mirotic also put up 25 points in the loss for a Pelicans team that shot only 44% from the field while committing 22 turnovers on the night.

And while the Pelicans have been known for their offensive prowess early on in the 2018 season, they have since  slowed down a bit in this area while losing their last four games to where they allowed their opponents to average 120 points per outing during this time.  The Pelicans, nonetheless, will see to regroup versus a Washington Wizards squad that, despite their winning two straight recently, continue allow opponents to put up points much too frequently.

How Washington Wizards & New Orleans Pelicans Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Washington is 7 – 12 ATS while the OU is 13-6
New Orleans is 9-11 ATS while the OU is  13 – 7

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will certainly be an interesting matchup for the Pelicans as they have now lost four straight games and are looking for some positive momentum  versus the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night. On the other hand, the Wizards are looking to extend their positive momentum, after winning two straight games, by having yet another great performance on the road versus a New Orleans Pelicans squad that has played well at home this season.  Of course, with Washington’s offense  playing much better at this point, expect them to established themselves on the offensive end early versus a shaky defensive unit for the Pelicans, while New Orleans will also be looking to exploit the inconsistent defense for the Wizards as points will indeed be scored early and often.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:   New Orleans Pelicans

My reason for the pick :

Yes, the Wizards have won two straight games while the New Orleans Pelicans continue to struggle in losing four straight. Nonetheless, I will back the Pelicans in this matchup as the Wizards have simply been too inconsistent  thus far in the season in which to back. And with New Orleans looking to come out of a funk on Wednesday night, expect them to come out looking to establish themselves early versus Washington in what will likely be a blowout victory in the end.

Totals Selection: Pick: Over

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the over in this matchup as I see both teams having solid nights on the offensive end as neither has much of a reputation of playing much defense in 2018. With that being the case, look for the Wizards to remain competitive for much of the contest; However, the home team will begin to pull away late in the second half due to them taking advantage of critical mistakes made by the Wizards on the defensive end. In all, the over is indeed the strong play in this matchup as the scoreboard will certainly light up throughout.

Betting trends for Washington Wizards:

  • Over is 5-0 in Wizards last 5 after scoring 100 points or more in their previous game.
Over is 5-0 in Wizards last 5 overall.
Over is 5-0 in Wizards last 5 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.

Betting trends for New Orleans Pelicans:

  • New Orleans Pelicans are 0-9 ATS in their last 9 games following a straight up loss.
Over is 4-0 in Pelicans last 4 home games.
Pelicans are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.
