Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Houston Rockets vs San Antonio Spurs

The Houston Rockets will travel to AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas, to battle the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Houston continues to be up and down on the season as they followed up a 5 game winning streak with a four-game losing streak with their last loss coming at the ends of the Dallas Mavericks by a 128 – 108 score as James Harden struggled in going 4-11 from 3-point range, yet leading the team with 25 points, 11 rebounds, along with 17 assists in the loss.

On the other hand, the San Antonio Spurs are losers of two of their last three as they suffered a blowout road loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in their last outing as both LaMarcus Aldridge and DeMar DeRozan struggled on the night while ending with 10 points each in the contest. The under has been to play in the last four meetings amongst these two teams.

Houston Rockets's Latest Performance :

The Rockets are averaging 112 points during their four-game losing streak while allowing opponents to put up an average of 124 points per outing. Chris Paul continues to be on the injured list with  a hamstring injury as the Rockets have certainly struggled on the offensive end as a result. James Harden remains the one constant for Houston as he continues to lead the team night in and night out in an effort to  keep games competitive. Nonetheless, the Rockets have found it to be tough going without Paul and his ability to not only be a playmaker, but, to also effectively distribute the ball throughout Houston’s various Playmakers.

In their last outing, the Rockets were destroyed at home by the Dallas Mavericks as they allowed the visitors to shoot 54% from the field while also nailing 17 three-pointers for the game as Luka doncic went 6-11 from 3-point range while ending the game with 20 points to lead a Mavericks team which possessed seven double-digit scores for the night. Hardin on the other hand, led the Rockets with 25 points on 7-15 shooting from the field while Clint capela added 18 points along with eight rebounds in defeat. As stated, Houston is certainly struggling at this point on the defensive end as they may also do so in this matchup versus the Spurs as San Antonio is ranked 3rd in the league in 3-point percentage per game in shooting 38%.

San Antonio Spurs 's Latest Performance :

The Spurs shot 39% from the field versus the Minnesota Timberwolves in their last outing while going 29% from 3 point range. On the other hand, their defense allowed the Timberwolves to shoot a tad over 50% from the field for the night while hitting 18 of 41 3-pointers. Of course, the defensive effort was not there at all, however, the offense was not there either as Jakob Poeltl led the Spurs with 14 points on the night while, as stated, Aldridge and DeRozan combined for only 20 points in the loss as they went a combined 9-20 on the night, thus ending a four-game road trip with a record of 2-2.

And while the road trip, as a whole, for the Spurs was not exactly a disaster, 17 turnovers versus the Timberwolves certainly dimmed the spirits of the Spurs after winning 2 out of three road games prior to their matchup with Minnesota. They will certainly look to get back on track versus a Houston team that has not played any defense at all lately, yet looking to come out of a funk as well.

How Houston Rockets & San Antonio Spurs Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Houston is 7 – 13 ATS while the OU is  12 – 8

San Antonio is  10 – 11 ATS while the OU is  12 – 8

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

It will be interesting to see how Houston approaches this matchup as they are clearly struggling on the defensive end of the court. On the other hand, they are beginning to look as if they are struggling on the offensive end is well due to  Paul being on the injured list. Nonetheless, the Rockets will have to learn how to win without their point guard for the time being as they will go up against a Spurs team that has been up and down lately, yet looking for a huge victory in which to gain confidence.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick: San Antonio Spurs

My reason for the pick :

I have no confidence that Houston will come into this game looking to shore up their vulnerabilities on the defensive side of the ball. With that being the case, I will certainly back the Spurs to show and prove after a horrible end to a four-game road trip to which they played well, yet were blasted by the Minnesota Timberwolves in their final road test, thus putting a damper on the trip, as a whole.

Totals Selection: Pick: Over

My reason for the prediction :

As stated, Houston is allowing teams to score at will lately, and I will expect the Spurs to come out of their offensive funk in this matchup as the over will indeed be the strong play in the end. And while the Rockets may have been awful to start the season on the defensive side, the Spurs have not been exactly stellar in this area, either, as they are allowing teams to shoot over 47% from the field on a nightly basis. With Harden and company looking to pull out the stops in which to get a much-needed win this contest, expect them to come out solid on the offensive end versus a shaky San Antonio defense as the total will certainly surpass its limit for this match up.

Betting trends for Houston Rockets:

  • Over is 6-0 in Rockets last 6 overall.
Over is 4-0 in Rockets last 4 games playing on 1 days rest.
Over is 5-0 in Rockets last 5 games following a ATS loss.

Betting trends for San Antonio Spurs :

  • Spurs are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing more than 125 points in their previous game.
Spurs are 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.
Over is 5-0-1 in Spurs last 6 overall.
