Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
New Orleans Pelicans vs Miami Heat
The struggling New Orleans Pelicans will travel to American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida to battle the Miami Heat on Friday night at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. As stated, the Pelicans come into this matchup losing four of their last five games. However, New Orleans picked up a win in their last outing versus the Washington Wizards by a 125 – 104 score at home as they were able to split a two-game home set after a loss to the Celtics in their prior outing.
On the other hand, the Miami Heat have lost two straight along with five of their last six, overall, as they suffered a 115 – 113 home loss to the Atlanta Hawks on November 27th as the Heat almost rallied from a 19-point deficit yet Josh Richardson could not connect on a last-second 3-point attempt to seal the victory for Miami. The Pelicans have covered the spread in only two of the last 8 meetings at American Airlines Arena while the over has been the play in nine of the last 13 meetings amongst these two teams.
New Orleans Pelicans's Latest Performance :
Anthony Davis put in 28 points along with 15 rebounds as the Pelicans ended a four-game losing streak by picking up a victory over the inconsistent Washington Wizards on Wednesday night. Jrue Holiday, who switched to shooting guard for this contest, scored 29 points as well for the Pelicans while Julius Randle added 23 points and 12 rebounds. Nikola Mirotic also had 15 points along with nine boards for New Orleans who shot 48% from the field along with making 11 of 36 3-point attempts for the night.
The Wizards shot 43% from the field for the night and were led by Markieff Morris along with Kelly Oubre with 22 points each while John Wall and Bradley Beal combined for 33 points on 13-28 shooting on the night. Beal also had 11 assists in the loss for Washington. The Pelicans can only hope that this win will provide the much-needed confidence and momentum moving forward. As stated, they had a terrific start to the season only to go on a deflating losing streak recently to where they dropped a few games due to struggles offensively as well as defensively.
Miami Heat's Latest Performance :
Miami certainly needs to put a win under their belt as they have struggled on both sides of the ball recently. In their last outing, they struggled versus the lowly Atlanta Hawks as Josh Richardson led the team with 22 points while Dwyane Wade and Wayne Ellington added 18 and 15 points, respectively, as the Heat lost their sixth straight home game.
Atlanta built a 19-point lead early in the second half before the Miami went on a run sparked by Richardson, yet the Hawks were resilient in their approach on the night as they answered with another 7-0 run of their own. Nonetheless, the Heat certainly had a chance in which to pull out the victory, however, a missed three point shot by Richardson as time wound down which gave the victory to the Atlanta Hawks. ”Right now, we’re between the hammer and the anvil,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. ”This is the NBA. If you expect it just to be easy, you’ve been led down the wrong road. This is not what we would like but this is when you start to develop some character.”
In all, the Heat will certainly be looking to get back on track versus a New Orleans team that, despite their troubles on both ends of the floor lately, picked up their last victory which allowed them to gain some confidence entering this matchup
How New Orleans Pelicans & Miami Heat Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
New Orleans is 10 – 12 ATS while the OU is 14 – 8
Miami is 8 – 12 ATS while the OU is 13 – 7
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Look for this to be an interesting matchup as New Orleans will be looking to build from there last pivotal win over the Wizards while the Miami Heat will be looking to come out of a major slump versus a Pelicans team that has certainly been known to allow teams to score points as of late. It is for this reason that I expect both teams to push the pace in this matchup as the Pelicans will want to catch the Miami defense on its heels while picking up some easy points on the perimeter within their transition game. In all, expect this to be a high scoring matchup where both teams will certainly bring their A game in which to get it win.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: New Orleans Pelicans
My reason for the pick :
Miami will certainly be looking to pick up their first home win in seven games in this matchup versus the Pelicans. On the other hand, the Pelicans will simply be looking to add to their great shooting night verses the Wizards while also picking up yet another win in the meantime on Friday. With that being the case, look for New Orleans to really come out solid on the offensive end as they will certainly want to push the pace versus a Miami team that is struggling on both sides of the ball at this time. In all, look for the Pelicans to come out with an all-important victory, thus winning their second straight.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over
My reason for the prediction :
The over has been the play in five of the last seven games for the Pelicans while also being the result in the last 2 matchups for the Miami Heat. Combine this with the fact that the Pelicans are not only an offensive team, but, also have allowed teams to score at will in 2018, one will certainly conclude that the over will indeed be the strong play in this matchup. In all, both offenses will have a stellar night as the total will certainly surpass its limit in the end.
