Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Utah Jazz vs Charlotte Hornets

The Utah Jazz will travel to Spectrum Arena in Charlotte, North Carolina, to battle the Charlotte Hornets on Friday night at 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Utah is attempting to overcome a devastating losing skid as they have won two of their last three games with their last being a 101 – 91 road win over the Brooklyn Nets as Donovan Mitchell scored 29 points for the game including 12 points in the last 5 minutes of the contest in which to pull out a victory for the Jazz.

The Charlotte Hornets, on the other hand, picked up a 108 – 94 home win over the Atlanta Hawks as they were able to atone for a one-point loss at State Farm Arena in their prior matchup. Jeremy Lamb scored 22 points in the win while Cody Zeller had 19 for the Charlotte Hornets. The Jazz have not covered the spread in the last four meetings in Charlotte while the under has been the result in eight of the last 11 meetings amongst these two teams.

Utah Jazz 's Latest Performance :

Donovan Mitchell was certainly the man for Utah in their last outing versus the struggling Brooklyn Nets as he scored 29 points total in the victory while Rudy gobert had 23 points along with 16 rebounds and  4 block shots for Utah. The win could not have come at a better time as the Jazz had dropped four of five games and while it took a minute for them to get going on the offensive end versus the Nets, Mitchell provided a much-needed lift for a Jazz team that were beginning to show the effects of slumping production on the offensive end.

And despite going only 9 – 28 from 3-point range, the Utah Jazz shot 48% from the floor for the night while dishing out 17 assists total.  Spencer Dinwiddie led the Nets in scoring with 18 points while D’Angelo Russell finished with 14 in the loss. In all, the Jazz will certainly look to take this momentum into this matchup versus a dangerous Charlotte team that has the ability to not only make critical stops on the defensive end, but has shown that they also have the offensive acumen in which to keep pace with any team in the league.

Charlotte Hornets's Latest Performance :

Charlotte Hornets have regained much of their flare after losing two straight games to Oklahoma City as well as to the Atlanta Hawks recently. As stated, they have picked up two straight victories over the Milwaukee Bucks as well as avenged their last loss to the Atlanta Hawks on the road as they will hope that this will provide the necessary momentum moving forward, particularly versus a Jazz team that is beginning to pick up steam.

Nonetheless, in their last outing, Jeremy Lamb took center stage as he led the Charlotte Hornets in scoring with 22 for the night as Kemba Walker played Robin throughout the game as he finished with 19 points while going 6-19 from the field along with missing four free throws as well. ”Anytime you have a player like Kemba, he’s hard to scheme,” Hawks coach Lloyd Pierce said. ”But when he has an off night you have to take advantage of it. For them, they did. He still played well I thought. He just didn’t have the explosive Kemba Walker-type of night.”

With that being said, the Charlotte Hornets are winners of five of their last six at Spectrum Center and will certainly look to continue this streak versus the Utah Jazz, a team that will soon the elicit the production of yet another shooter in Kyle Korver, who was traded from the Cleveland Cavaliers before their match up with Oklahoma City.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will certainly be an upbeat matchup on Friday night as Mitchell will indeed be back in the lineup while Kyle Korver will also suit up for the Jazz after his trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers. With that being said, Kemba Walker will also look to have a much better night after and off shooting  performance in the Hornets victory over the Atlanta Hawks. In all, expect each team to come out with focus as they will simply want to extend their stellar play while reeling off a set of victories in the meantime.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Charlotte Hornets

My reason for the pick :

While Mitchell and the Utah Jazz played well in their last outing, I expect the Charlotte Hornets to show and prove in this matchup as they have been virtually unstoppable at home. And despite Walkers off shooting night in their last outing versus Atlanta, look for the team to rely on him immensely in this contest as it will certainly be a pivotal game. In all, the Charlotte Hornets will indeed grind out a hard-fought victory as I see them pulling away in the second half due to their ability to score  points in bunches along with playing great team defense as well.

Totals Selection: Pick: Over

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the over in this contest in that it has been the play in four of the last six games for the Utah Jazz while also being the result in three of the last 5 home games for the red-hot Charlotte Hornets. With that being said, look for this to be an up-and-down, fast-paced game throughout as each team will pick up easy baskets through transition constantly as the total will balloon as a result.

  • Over is 4-1 in Jazz last 5 Friday games.
Jazz are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.

Betting trends for Charlotte Hornets:
