Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Atlanta Hawks vs Oklahoma City Thunder
The Atlanta Hawks will visit Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to face the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday night at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Hawks are coming off of a 108 – 94 road loss to the Charlotte Hornets as the Hawks began the game making 4 of 5 shots from long range yet finished the night going 11 of 44 overall while ending the game shooting a dismal 34% for the night.
On the other hand, the Oklahoma City Thunder come into this game winners of three of their last four games as their last win entailed them picking up a win over the Cleveland Cavaliers by a 100 – 83 score at home as the Thunder allowed the Cavaliers to shoot only 39% from the floor in the contest while Russell Westbrook obtained his third triple-double of the year in finishing with 23 points, 18 rebounds, along with 15 assists in the win. The over has been to play in seven of the last eight games amongst these teams in Oklahoma City while the Hawks have covered the spread in only eight of 20 matchups in the last 28 meetings with Oklahoma City.
Atlanta Hawks's Latest Performance :
While the Hawks come into this game winners of two of their last three games, they were losers versus the Charlotte Hornets in their last time out as they not only shot 34% from the floor, as stated, but only made 11 of 44 3-point attempts for the night. Trae Young and Taurean Prince led the Hawks in scoring with 18 and 12 points in the loss as Atlanta continued to struggle on the offensive end while giving up too many points on the defensive end of the court at the same time.
In fact, their match up with the Hornets was the second time in four outings that the Hawks failed to reach the 100-point mark in a contest. On the other hand, the 108 points allowed to Charlotte in their last outing was the least amount of points that the Hawks have allowed in their last four games. In all, Atlanta continues to search for a consistent scorer in which the team can depend on to (1) get a big shot on the offensive end when needed, or to (2) rely on on the defensive end of the court. Without this, they will certainly continue to struggle in 2018.
Oklahoma City Thunder's Latest Performance :
Oklahoma City has been on a tear lately, and while one would attribute their success to the return of Russell Westbrook along with their other dangerous weapons on offense, they have also been able to get things done on the defensive end of the floor as well. As stated, they allowed the Cavs to shoot less than 40% from the field on the night after the road team started off red hot from the floor. In fact, the Hawks were ahead by 4 points in the 3rd quarter before Russell Westbrook’s began a 13 – 0 run which ultimately allowed the Thunder to go up by 9 points late in the quarter while the home team cruisde to victory.
Of course, Russell Westbrook was the star of the night with the triple double, however, Jerami Grant along with Paul George chipped in 21 and 18 points, respectively, in the win for the Thunder. The offense for Oklahoma City is only averaging 104 points during their 3-1 stretch; However, the defense for the Thunder are allowing opponents to only put up 94 points per game during this time, thus making them a dangerous team defensively. They will certainly like to exert themselves on this end of the floor versus and Atlanta team that consistently struggles from the floor on a nightly basis.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The Oklahoma City Thunder will be looking to continue its momentum from their recent outstanding play by beating up on the Atlanta Hawks at home on Friday night. On the other hand, Atlanta comes into this game with a bit of momentum of their own as they have won two of their last three games, overall. Yet, they are losers of five of their last six road games. In all, expect this to be an upbeat contest to where both teams will be looking to push the pace in order to obtain easy baskets in transition. One can also expect this to be a rather low-scoring affair amongst teams where a stout defense in OKC will be matched up against an inconsistent offense that does not possess a go to player to speak of, as of yet.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Oklahoma City Thunder
My reason for the pick :
The Thunder will come out with the win in this contest simply due to the fact that they are playing winning basketball at this time of season while the Hawks continue to drop games do to their inability to remain consistent on either side of the court. As stated, the Thunder will be looking to push the pace in this matchup in which to catch the Hawks on their heels; On the other hand, due to their severe lack of offense, the Atlanta Hawks will likely push the pace as well in which to pick up some easy baskets in transition. Nonetheless, the Oklahoma City Thunder will take command of this game at some point while cruising to victory in the end.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
Oklahoma City’s defense has been very solid lately and I expect them to neutralize the Atlanta offense in this contest on Friday night. In fact, the under has been the results in five of the last six games for Oklahoma City ( 4 straight, overall) while also being the play in four of the last six road games for the Hawks. With that being said, the under will indeed be the strong play in what will be an exciting matchup, at least for a half.
