Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Denver Nuggets vs Portland Trailblazers

The Denver Nuggets will travel to the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon, to battle the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night at 10:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Nuggets come into this game on a high in winning four straight matchups while coming off of a blowout home victory over the Los Angeles Lakers as they were able to get 20 points each from Paul Millsap, Jamal Murray, along with Malik Beasley while holding the Lakers to only 39% shooting for the night as the visitors only hit 5 of 35 3-point attempts.

The Portland Trail Blazers ended a three-game skid by edging the Orlando Magic at home as Damian Lillard was the man of the night in scoring 41 points while also  hitting 10 three-pointers on the night en route to the much-needed victory. The under has been the play in the last four meetings amongst these teams, overall.

Denver Nuggets 's Latest Performance :

As stated, Denver comes into this matchup winners of four straight games as they beat up on the Los Angeles Lakers in their last match up by a 117 – 85 score as Millsap, Murray, along with Beasley proved to be a three-headed monster for the Nuggets while Nikola Jokic added 14 points along with seven rebounds and seven assists in the huge win for the nuggets. During their 4 game winning streak, the Nuggets offense has averaged 111 points while the defense has been the tip of the spear during this time as they are only allowing opponents to put up 95 points total.

In fact, opponents have not been able to crack the 100-point mark versus Denver in their last three outings. With that being the case, look for Denver to exert themselves on the defensive end of the floor early on versus a streaky Portland Trail Blazers squad that possesses one of the most effective scoring point guards in the league in Lillard.

Portland Trailblazers's Latest Performance :

Portland is ranked 10th in the league in averaging 112 points per outing; however, in their three games prior to their meeting with Orlando at home, the Blazers were only putting up an average of 99 points per game. On the other hand, the defense was atrocious for Portland during this time as they were allowing offenses to put up 119 points per outing, including two games to where their opponents scored over 120 points. With that being the case, the Blazers certainly did not impress on the defensive end versus the Magic either as the visitors ended the game shooting over 51% from the floor in the contest while also sinking 14 of 33 point attempts.

However, the offense certainly came out of their funk, particularly from the 3-point arc, as the Blazers ended the game with 19 total three-pointers with Lillard going 10-15 for the night. Of course, Orlando has been competitive in their recent matchups and certainly made a game out of it late;  Yet, Lillard was able to hit a floating jumper with less than a minute remaining in which to seal the victory for the home team. The Blazers hope that this type of momentum can propel them in this matchup versus a solid Denver Nuggets squad that has balanced scoring on the offensive end while maintaining an effective level of team defense in which to neutralize the offense for the opponent.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

In all, look for this to be a contest with two teams with different philosophies. On one hand, you have the Denver Nuggets that prefer to utilize a strong defense in which two allow for opportunities to score on the offensive end while the Portland Trail Blazers are an up-and-down team that uses its offense in which to spur even more effective play on the defensive end. With that being the case, expect this to be an exciting and competitive match up  throughout while also being a rather low-scoring affair as I certainly see the Denver Nuggets bringing their A-game on the defensive end.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Denver Nuggets +2

My reason for the pick :

While Portland can be given much credit for halting a 3 game losing streak due to their last victory over the Orlando Magic, the fact remains that they remained a very inconsistent team to where Lillard tends to put the team on his back way too often. This will certainly cause fatigue versus a Denver Nuggets squad that thrives on making offenses work to get their shots on offense. It is for this reason that I will back Denver in this matchup as I happen to feel that they will pester Lillard throughout the entirety of the game, thus preventing him from having an effective night for a team which relies on him way too much, in my opinion.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under 214

My reason for the prediction :

I will pick the under in this matchup as it has been the play in three of the last four home games for the Portland Trail Blazers while also being the result of the last five games for the Denver Nuggets. As stated, I expect the Nuggets to have a solid night on the defensive end as they will bring the pressure throughout the duration; On the other hand, also expect them to have a decent night on the offensive end is well as Portland has been known to allow teams to score in bunches, as was the case in their  prior losing skid.
