Oklahoma City Thunder vs Detroit Pistons

The Oklahoma City Thunder will travel to Little Caesars arena in Detroit, Michigan, to battle the red hot Detroit Pistons on Monday night at 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Detroit comes into this matchup winners of five straight games after they picked up the 111 – 102 home win over the Golden State Warriors in the last outing as Blake Griffin and Andre Drummond scored 26 and 16 points, respectively, in the win while Griffin added nine rebounds along with five assist in addition to Drummond having 19 rebounds in the win.

On the other hand, the Oklahoma City Thunder also rebounded from a loss to the Denver Nuggets on November 24th to win their second straight outing as they where victorious versus the Atlanta Hawks at home in the last outing in a 124 – 109 win. Russell Westbrook was sensational on the night in scoring 34 points along with 10 rebounds and 9 assists in the win for the Thunder while Paul George finished with 20 points on 6-14 shooting from the field. The under has been the play in seven of the last eight meetings amongst these two teams while the Thunder has covered the spread in only two of the last seven meetings at Little Caesars Arena.

Oklahoma City Thunder's Latest Performance :

The Thunder enters this match up with the Pistons winning seven of their last 10 games, overall, as Russell Westbrook has been on a tear since his return six games ago as he has  recorded a double-double in five of his last six games total. In his last outing versus the Atlanta Hawks, Westbrook ended of the game with 23 points, as stated, while Alex Abrines along with Paul George had 21 and 20 points for the Thunder in the win versus a struggling Atlanta Hawks Squad at home.

The defense, on the other hand, held the Hawks to only 44% shooting along with 30% shooting from 3-point range as John Collins led the team with 21 points along with 10 rebounds. The Thunder broke out of an offensive funk that has plagued them in their last three outings as they were averaging 101 points per game prior to  putting up 124 points on the Atlanta Hawks. They will certainly hope that this will translate into this matchup versus a Detroit Pistons team that is ranked 10th in the league in points allowed per game with 108 per.

Detroit Pistons 's Latest Performance :

Detroit has been on a roll lately primarily due to the play of Blake Griffin and Andre Drummond.  Griffin actually leads the team in points and assists with 25 points per game along with five assists while Drummond leads the team in rebounds with 16 boards per game. On the other hand, Griffin has scored 20 points or more in seven of the last eight games for Detroit while Drummond has recorded a double-double in nine of his last 10 games, overall.

In all, their play has spurred the Pistons into winning eight of their last 10 games coming into this matchup versus the Oklahoma City Thunder while also being 7-1 in their last eight home games.  In their last outing versus the Golden State Warriors, the Pistons were outshot by the Warriors from the field by  a 46 – 46% margin; However,  hit 12 three-pointers on the night while getting big contributions from Griffin and Drummond in the meantime int he victory.  Reggie Jackson ended the game with 17 points as he went 6-17 from the floor for the night as Detroit continued their recent roll through their schedule with yet another win. They will certainly be looking to continue this streak versus an Oklahoma City Thunder team that has been playing well in their own right, particularly due to Russell Westbrook and his play, lately.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will certainly be one of the more exciting games on Monday night as you have an Oklahoma City squad that has been playing outstanding basketball lately versus a team in Detroit that is slowly gaining a reputation as one as the more physical and tough teams in the Eastern Conference. Of course, the Pistons have been great at home in 2018 and will certainly be looking to continue this streak versus the Thunder; However, Russell Westbrook will certainly bring his playmaking ability in to this matchup in which to create opportunities to score along with opportunities for his teammates. In all, look for this to be a battle throughout as Detroit will be looking to slow down the pace of this game by playing a slow, grinding pace while Oklahoma City will certainly be looking to push the pace early and often in which to catch the Pistons on their heels on the defensive end.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Detroit Pistons

My reason for the pick :

I will back the Pistons in this matchup as I have the feeling that they will grind out an all important win versus the Thunder on Monday night. As stated, the Pistons have played outstanding basketball recently, particularly at home, and this trend will certainly continue as they will look to utilize their slow-paced philosophy onto an Oklahoma City Thunder team that will very much be looking to run throughout this contest. With that being said, look for Detroit to get to the free-throw line early and often in this matchup, which will certainly slow down the pace of the game altogether,  in what will be a slim victory on Monday night.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

The under has not only been the play in the last two games for the Detroit Pistons but was also the result in four of the last five games for the Oklahoma City Thunder, overall.  Combine this with the fact that  Oklahoma City continues to acclimate themselves with Westbrook being back into the lineup as this has certainly shown in their overall offensive outputs in their last few outings. And despite them coming out of a funk versus the Atlanta Hawks, Detroit will certainly play solid defense versus the Thunder this contest as the under will be the strong play.

Betting trends for Oklahoma City Thunder:

  • Under is 5-0 in Thunder last 5 vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
Over is 4-0 in Thunder last 4 Monday games.
Under is 6-1 in Thunder last 7 when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous game.

Betting trends for Detroit Pistons :

  • Over is 4-0 in Pistons last 4 games playing on 1 days rest.
Pistons are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
Pistons are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall.
