Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Michigan State Spartans vs Florida Gators

The 10th ranked Michigan State Spartans will travel to Stephen C. O’Connell Center in Gainesville, Florida, to battle the Florida Gators on Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Spartans have erected themselves after a four-point set back to the Louisville Cardinals prior in which to win two straight games, with their last being against the Iowa Hawkeyes as they picked up the 90 – 68 home win as the Spartans extended their 10 point halftime lead in which to outscore Iowa 47-35 in the second half en route to the convincing Victory.

On the other hand, the Florida Gators also won their 2nd straight game on the road vs the West Virginia Mountaineers as they picked up a huge 66-56 win as the Gators shot horribly from the field at 33% yet went to the free-throw line a whopping 46 time while the Mountaineers only graced the free throw line 20 times for the game. Nonetheless, both teams will certainly be looking for yet another win in which to continue their recent success.

Michigan State Spartans's Latest Performance :

Aside from their lost to Louisville by four points, the Spartans have picked up wins in every other game this season by at least 10 points. This streak continued versus the Iowa Hawkeyes as they picked up a 25-point blowout win at home as they allowed the Hawkeyes to shoot 32% from the field while connecting on only six of 22 3 point attempts. And despite the Spartans only connecting on 3 of 12 long balls, they shot a tad over 51% for the game while outrebounding Iowa by a margin of 39-34. Michigan State was led by Nick Ward who went 10-10 from the field while ending with 24 points and five rebounds while Xavier Tillman was the only other double-digit score for Michigan State as he put in 14 points along with eight rebounds while going 5-6 from the floor.

Tyler Cook led the Hawkeyes with 15 points and eight rebounds in the loss as Michigan State dominated from start to finish. With that being the case, Michigan state will look to somehow  solve a defense for the Gators that has certainly been dominant as well throughout the season. On the other hand, while the Gators are only allowing a tad over 60 points per game for their opponents and will certainly find a huge challenge when facing a Spartans team that is not only looking to extend their current winning streak, but, also looking to also maintain their positioning within the top 25.

Florida Gators's Latest Performance :

The Florida Gators made 28 of their 46 free throws for the night versus the West Virginia Mountaineers in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden in their last time out. On the other hand, West Virginia only went to the line a total of 20 times while making 11 of its attempts for the night. Both team shot horribly from the floor as the Gators shot a mere 33% while West Virginia shot 29% on the night while West Virginia had 21 turnovers, which certainly did not bode well in them winning the matchup, altogether.

Florida was led by Keyvaughn Allen, who was the only double-digit scorer, with 19 points while going 5-13 from the floor. West Virginia only had one double digit score as well in Chase Harler with 11 points as he shot 4-5 from the field. And while the offense for the Gators have been very inconsistent to begin the 2018 season, their defense has certainly continued to be solid as they have allowed opponents to score an average of 61 points in their last two outings while allowing only 38% shooting to opposing teams for the year. They will now face a Michigan State squad that is averaging 87 points per game on 49% shooting while winning seven of their first 8 games of the season.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This game will be interesting in that Michigan State will certainly receive a test from a dominating Florida Gators defense in this matchup on Saturday afternoon. As stated, the offense for the Spartans as well as the defense for Florida come in highly touted as they are talented and athletic in these areas. Nonetheless, the offense for Florida has indeed struggled and will find their own set of issues versus Michigan State defense stats has allowed 70 points or more in only one of their last seven games, total.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:   Michigan State Spartans

My reason for the pick :

I will back the Spartans in this matchup as they will find some  way in which to sneak out a victory in this matchup versus the Florida Gators.  As stated, the Spartans were not able to pull out a win versus their last road test vs. the Louisville Cardinals, and will certainly come out in this matchup focused on getting a much-needed win. Of course, things will not be easy with a solid defense for the Gators taking the floor, however, the Michigan State Spartans will persevere at critical times within this game in which to pick up a hard-fought victory.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the under in this contest as two defenses will be  taking the floor in this contest on Saturday afternoon. With that being the case, look for both offenses to struggle more than usual throughout the game as I certainly expect a low-scoring, yet highly competitive game amongst these two teams. May the best team win!
