Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
New Orleans Pelicans vs Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics return home to TD Garden after playing on the road last outing and they will welcome in the New Orleans Pelicans in a cross-conference clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 7:30 PM. The Celtics will look to stay hot and continue climbing the standings while the Pelicans have dropped 7 of their last 10.
New Orleans Pelicans's Latest Performance :
The New Orleans Pelicans have a talented roster but they have been unable to meet expectations in the early portion of 2018 as they are sitting around the .500 mark which won’t cut it in a tough Western Conference. The Pelicans are coming off a hard-fought loss against the Memphis Grizzlies as it was a defensive affair, 107-103. Leading the way for the Pelicans was the former Los Angeles Lakers forward Julius Randle as he dropped 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Randle started the year on the bench in favor of Nikola Mirotic but with Randle averaging 18.9 PPG and 9.4 RPG, it is hard to keep him off the floor. One of the top forwards in the NBA in Anthony Davis didn’t have a big game either as the 25-year-old was able to drop 25 points and grab 11 rebounds in the loss. Anthony Davis is putting together MVP type numbers in the early going of 2018 as he is averaging 27.8 PPG and 12.5 RPG. A problem for the Pelicans in the early going has been bench production and guard play. Jrue Holiday has continued his high level of play as he is averaging 20.4 PPG and 9.1 APG but outside of him, the guard play has been poor.
Boston Celtics's Latest Performance :
The Boston Celtics were slated to be the favorites in the Eastern Conference but they quickly found themselves towards the bottom of the standings. The Celtics have been able to rebound nicely and they are coming off their 5th consecutive win as they beat the Bulls on the road 133-77. The Celtics received an even distribution amongst their team as 7 different players reached double-digit scoring. Leading the way for Boston was SG Jaylen Brown who dropped 23 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, Brown is only averaging 12.1 PPG. The most amazing stat line may have come out of backup center Daniel Theis who filled in for the injured Al Horford and impressed. Theis was able to record a double-double in this game as he dropped 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in over 32 minutes of playing time. Star PG Kyrie Irving didn’t have his typical big outing as he only dropped 13 points and dished out 5 assists but his backup Terry Rozier picked up his slow day by dropping 15 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. Rozier has asserted himself as one of the best backup PGs in the league as he is averaging 8.6 PPG and 4.2 RPG.

Against The Spread Selection: Boston Celtics*
My reason for the pick :
This is a classic matchup of a high-powered offense vs. one of the best defenses in the NBA but something has got to give in this matchup and I will give the advantage to the home team. Boston is clicking on all cylinders right now as they are riding a small win streak while New Orleans has been extremely inconsistent. The Pelicans have the advantage down low with Randle and Davis but the Celtics guards and their bench play is unmatched. Kyrie Irving and Jrue Holiday will be a fun matchup to watch but Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum will go wild in this matchup. Ride with the hot hand as the Celtics are good at home.
