Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Portland Trailblazers vs Memphis Grizzlies

The Portland Trail Blazers will travel to FedEx forum in Memphis, Tennessee, to battle the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Portland has been weathering the storm from a three-game losing skid, recently, as they picked up their second straight win over the Minnesota Timberwolves at home in their last time out as Damian Lillard along with CJ McCollum each hit 3-pointers in the final minute of the game in which to pull away from the Timberwolves and get the much-needed victory.

On the other hand, the Memphis Grizzlies are trending in the opposite direction as they lost their second straight game due to a 105 – 99 road loss to the tough, Denver Nuggets, in their last outing as an injury-riddled Nuggets team got 27 points from Nikola jokic along with 25 points from Monte Morris in which to pull out a victory over a Memphis team that improved on the offensive end in the contest, yet suffered awful results in the end. Nonetheless, both teams will be looking to pick up a victory in this matchup in which to extend their current winning streak, or, to halt a losing skid while beginning a winning streak of their own.

Portland Trailblazers's Latest Performance :

Portland has won their last two outings and are entering this game with a bit of confidence and momentum after they picked up a win versus the Minnesota Timberwolves in their last outing as Damian Lillard led the team with 28 points along with eight rebounds and six assists while CJ McCollum hit three 3-pointers on the night while finishing with 19 points along with five rebounds in the win. And while the Blazers shot 47% from the field, overall, they held the Timberwolves to  only 44% shooting on the night as Andrew Wiggins, Karl Anthony Towns, along with Derrick Rose chipped in 20, 19, and 18 points, respectively, for the Timberwolves in defeat as they were heavily outrebounded by Portland by a 53-40 margin while certainly not taking advantage of 19 turnovers for the Blazers in the contest.

After their matchup with the Grizzlies, Portland will return home to take on a solid Toronto Raptors squad while also squaring up versus the LA Clippers on the road. Needless to say, Portland will need to continue their hot shooting on the offensive end while improving on the defensive end of the floor as well in which to pick up some wins moving forward.

Memphis Grizzlies's Latest Performance :

As a testament to the Grizzlies struggling on the offensive end, their offense has not reached the 100-point mark in four of their last five games, overall. The defense continues to be solid as they are allowing teams to score a 99 points per game during this time. Nonetheless, the fact remains that Memphis, ranked 27th in the league in points scored with 103 per game, are reeling at this point on the offensive end and will certainly like to improve upon their overall offensive prowess versus a Portland team that has allowed 110 points per game to their opponents in 2018, yet, is only allowing 95 points per during their two-game winning streak.

The Grizzlies came out of there shooting slump in their matchup versus the Denver Nuggets as the shot 50% from the floor during the game while hitting 9 of 27 three-point attempts as they were led by Mike Conley, who went 5-14 from the floor with 19 points while Marc Gasol struggled, once again, in going 2 – 6 for the night while ending with seven points. Jamychal Green went 4 of 10 from the floor on the night while chipping in 13 points along with 10 rebounds for the Grizzlies, yet this was not enough in which to pick up a much-needed victory.

As stated, Memphis will certainly want  attempt to push the pace a bit in this matchup in which to kick-start their offense. Of course, this goes against their slow pace, physical style of play; However, the Grizzlies need a spark at this point in the season and attempting to try something different certainly will not hurt a bit.

How Portland Trailblazers & Memphis Grizzlies Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Portland is 13 – 13 ATS while the OU is  14 – 12

Memphis is 15 – 11 ATS while the OU is  11 – 15

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will be a very competitive game in that you will have a Memphis Grizzlies team with their backs against the wall and looking to pick up a much-needed victory in which to stop their current bleeding. On the other hand, Lillard continues to lead this Portland Trail Blazers team on it a night in, night out basis as he will certainly be looking to will his team to yet another victory, their third straight. With that being said, look for this matchup to be low-scoring yet competitive as the Grizzlies will seek to continue their outstanding play on the defensive end in which to make up for a lack of offensive production. Also, look for the Grizzlies to look to push the pace a bit in this game in which to pick up easy buckets in transition on a Portland team that has struggled, at times, on the defensive end of the floor in 2018.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Memphis Grizzlies

My reason for the pick :

While the Grizzlies have played poor basketball lately and have not played well at home in losing three of their last four, overall; However, I will back the home team in this matchup as Portland has not played well on the road either as they have gone winless in their last four games. It is for this reason that the Memphis Grizzlies will get back to basics while keeping this game low-scoring and manageable throughout on their way to picking up a slim  victory in the end. As stated, Memphis is desperate for a win at this point, however, must have more production from Gasol along with other role players, aside from Conley, in which to get back on the winning track and pick up some much-needed wins.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the under in this contest as  this game has a certain aura of being a competitive, yet low-scoring contest amongst teams that are trending in different directions at this point in the season. Again, look for Memphis to try to kick-start their offense in any way possible while also attempting to push the pace in which two obtain some easy baskets in transition and / or get to the free-throw line. Nonetheless, look for this game to not surpass the total set as what you will have is a Memphis team that will hunker down on the defensive while Portland will also look to neutralize an offense for Memphis that that has almost been nonexistent were it not for Mike Conley in the lineup.
