Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Atlanta Hawks vs Boston Celtics
The Atlanta Hawks will travel to TD Bank Arena in Boston, Massachusetts, to battle the Boston Celtics on Friday night at 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Atlanta could not extend its momentum from a home win versus the Denver Nuggets in their prior outing as they fell on the road to the Dallas Mavericks by a 114 – 107 score on December 12th as the Hawks shot well enough in which to win this game, yet, got to the free-throw line only 17 times for the game as opposed to 43 for the home team Mavericks en route to the defeat.
On the other hand, the Boston Celtics needed overtime in which to win their 7th straight game over the dismal Washington Wizards on the road as a stellar third quarter by the Celtics to which they outscored the Wizards 38 – 22, put them in a great position in which to pick up a win as they were led by Kyrie Irving, who put up 38 points along with seven assists, while going 12-28 from the field along with 4-11 from three-point range in the win. The over has been the play in five of the last seven meetings amongst these teams, overall.
Atlanta Hawks's Latest Performance :
Boston is on a high at this point in the season due to their ability to step things up on both sides of the floor. Kyrie Irving is slowly beginning to find his way back into a groove in this area while Marcus Morris has also begun to step up even more for the Celtics lately. In their last outing versus the lowly Washington Wizards on the road, the Celtics shot 45% from the floor as they were led by Irving with 38 points along with seven assists while Morris chipped in 27 points along with nine rebounds. Marcus Smart went 5-12 from the field while ending with 18 points for the Celtics in the win as well.
The offense, in all, was very efficient versus a defense for Washington that ranks in the lower tier of NBA teams in all major defensive categories, however, their defense took a slight step back as the Wizards shot a tad over 51% for the game whilst making good on 12 3-pointers on the night as John Wall, Bradley Beal, and Kelly Oubre Jr scored 34, 22, and 20 points, respectively, for Washington while Jeff Green also chipped in 22 points along with 10 rebounds in defeat for the Wizards.
In all, the Celtics have four of their next five games at home where they are winners of three of their last four games, overall, as they will certainly look to continue their winning play versus an Atlanta team that simply cannot seem to find their way due to inconsistencies on both sides of the ball throughout the season.
Boston Celtics's Latest Performance :
The Atlanta Hawks certainly began their three-game road trip on a sour note as they were 114 – 107 losers versus the Dallas Mavericks in their last outing as the Maverick slowly pulled away from the visitors late in the game as they were led by Harrison Barnes, who continued his stellar streak of shooting, with 25 points on the night while also going 5-8 from three-point range while Luca Doncic scored 24 points along with pulling down 10 rebounds as he struggled from the floor in going 5-14 on the night.
On the other hand, the Hawks shot decent from the floor at 46% while hitting 11 of 33 three pointers on the night as Trae young and Kent Bazemore chipped in 24 and 22 points, respectively, as John Collins also continued his stellar streak of play with 20 points along with 17 rebounds in defeat for the Hawks. In all, the Hawks allowed Dallas to shoot 47% from the field as they also nailed 12 three-pointers on the night while the Hawks turned the ball over a whopping 21 times throughout the course of this game, which certainly did not bode well for their chances of winning.
Nonetheless, the Hawks will battle the Boston Celtics in this matchup on Friday while ending their road trip versus the Brooklyn Nets on December 16th, as they will certainly like to atone for their lack of offensive punch late in the game versus Dallas in their matchup versus a Boston team that, despite giving up 125 points in their last outing, are allowing opponents to score an average of 105 points per game in their last five outings, overall.
How Atlanta Hawks & Boston Celtics Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Atlanta is 11 – 16 ATS while the OU is 15 – 12
Boston is 14 – 13 ATS while the OU is 15 – 12
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This will certainly be an interesting game in that the Atlanta Hawks will take to the road in which to battle a Celtics team that has not only been stellar at home, recently, but, has also been much better on the road as well. With that being the case, look for the Celtics to push the pace on the Hawks in this matchup in which to catch their inconsistency defense on its heels. On the other hand, the Hawks will continue to look for some type of consistency on both sides of the floor versus a Celtics team that has been stingy on the defensive end lately while also putting up big numbers offensively as well.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Boston Celtics
My reason for the pick :
I will back the Celtics in this matchup as they will wear down the Hawks early on in this matchup in which to pull out a convincing victory to win their 8th straight game. As stated, the Celtics are winners of three of their last four games at TD Bank Arena as each of those wins were huge blowouts. I expect the mantra to be the same versus a struggling Atlanta Hawks team that are losers of three of their last for road games, overall.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over
My reason for the prediction :
The over has been the play in four of the last five games, overall, for the Atlanta Hawks while being the result in three of the last four home games for the Boston Celtics. Since I happen to believe that the Celtics will have all of the momentum entering this game, look for the home team to jump out on the Hawks by pushing the ball constantly in which to pick up some easy buckets in transition while also getting to the free-throw line. With that being the case, look for the over to be the strong play in this matchup as Boston will have another effective night on the offensive end.
