Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Indiana Pacers vs Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors will return home to Scotiabank Arena after playing 6 consecutive road games and they will welcome in the Indiana Pacers in an Eastern Conference clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 7:30 PM. The Raptors currently leads the Eastern Conference but the Pacers have hung close and only sit 2 games out.

Indiana Pacers's Latest Performance :

The Indiana Pacers have quietly climbed up the Eastern Conference standings as they put together 7 straight wins which puts them within striking range of the Raptors for the top spot. The latest Pacers win was against the New York Knicks as they were able to beat up on the lowly franchise 110-99 on Sunday. Leading the way for the Pacers was no other than their sensational guard in Victor Oladipo as he was able to record 26 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists. Oladipo has clearly been the difference for this franchise as the 26-year-old is averaging 20.8 PPG, 6.6 RPG, and 5.1 APG while also contributing 1.7 SPG on the defensive side of the court. Another young piece that has blossomed for the Pacers is center Myles Turner and we saw him showcase his talent against the Knicks as he recorded 24 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. The frontcourt only gets stronger when the Pacers go to their bench as Domantas Sabonis has asserted himself as an underrated big man. Sabonis was able to record a double-double against the Knicks with 13 points and 12 rebounds which is right around his season average of 14 PPG and 9.9 RPG. The Pacers will be hoping they get back the services of reserve guard Tyreke Evans as he sat out against the Knicks with a knee injury.

Toronto Raptors's Latest Performance :

The Toronto Raptors were unable to get much going on offense during the last game of their latest road trip as they were only able to score 86 points against the Denver Nuggets. Part of the reason that the Raptors were limited on offense can be accredited to their lack of scoring depth as Kyle Lowry, Fred VanVleet, Jonas Valanciunas, Norman Powell, and Pascal Siakam all sat out in this game due to injuries. Leading the way for the Raptors was forward Kawhi Leonard as the former all-star was able to record a double-double with 29 points and 14 rebounds. Leonard has easily been a huge reason the Raptors currently sit in first place as the 27-year-old is averaging 26.3 PPG, 8.4 RPG, and on the defensive end, he is averaging 1.8 SPG. Having a solid game off the bench for the Raptors is guard Delon Wright as he was able to record 15 points and grab 8 rebounds in the loss. Wright played exceptionally well which may boost more playing time for the reserve guard as he is only averaging 6.1 PPG and 2.4 RPG. With the injuries to the frontcourt, the Raptors have been forced to move Serge Ibaka to the center spot and he didn’t play terribly in this spot as he dropped 14 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.

Against The Spread Selection: Indiana Pacers*

My reason for the pick :

This could be a potential look ahead to the Eastern Conference Finals and I am all for it but the Pacers will go on the road in this one and beat up on the injured Raptors. There is still uncertainty who will suit up for the Raptors in this game and assuming this is a big game in terms of Eastern Conference standing position I assume some guys will fight through the pain and play. Oladipo has been a force all season long and I just don’t think the backcourt of Toronto matches up with Indiana. The big difference in this game is the bench scoring from Indiana as Sabonis and Evans have asserted themselves as two of the best bench players in the NBA. Toronto is usually known for their bench play but the injuries have killed the depth of this team and I think that is a difference here.

Betting trends for Indiana Pacers:

  • Indiana is 7-5 ATS as an underdog this season.

Betting trends for Toronto Raptors:

  • Toronto is 1-3 ATS with 1 day off this season.
