Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Minnesota Timberwolves vs San Antonio Spurs
The Minnesota Timberwolves will travel to AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas, to battle the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Spurs are coming off their second straight win as they picked up a victory on the road versus the Orlando Magic as LaMarcus Aldridge led the team with 20 points as 5 San Antonio Spurs players scored in double-figures en route to the much-needed victory, with San Antonio winning six of their last seven games, overall.
On the other hand, the Minnesota Timberwolves suffered a 129 – 123 overtime loss to the Detroit Pistons at home as they had no answers for Blake Griffin along with Reggie Bullock, who scored 34 along with 33 points, respectively, for the Pistons in the win. Both teams have won 1 game each in the series for the year as Minnesota picked up the win at AT&T Center in their last outing on November 28th while the Spurs picked up a four point road win on October 17th. In all, the over has been the play in four the last five meetings amongst these teams while it has also been the result in seven of the last eight meetings at AT&T Center, overall.
Minnesota Timberwolves's Latest Performance :
In all, the Timberwolves are losers of five of their last six games, total, as they were dominated by the Detroit Pistons in their last matchup after relinquishing a 14-point lead at the end of the third quarter in which to be outscored by the Detroit Pistons by a 40 – 26 margin in the fourth quarter, alone, in which to force overtime. Of course, during the overtime period, the Pistons got big shots from Griffin along with Andre Drummond in which to seal the victory. It would also be important to note that both Griffin and Bullock went a combined 12-22 from long range on the night in spurring the Pistons to victory.
On the other hand, Minnesota shot a dismal 43% from the floor along with 28% from three-point range as Derrick Rose with 14-29 from the floor while leading the team with 33 points along with seven assists while Robert Covington along with Karl Anthony Towns chipped in 18 and 16 points, respectively, as the Timberwolves have allowed opponents to score at least 110 points in five of their last seven games. Nonetheless, they will look to get back on the winning track versus a San Antonio team that has not only been solid on their home court recently, but, are also locked into what will be a heated race within the Southwest Division versus the Houston Rockets to which a win will certainly be imperative.
San Antonio Spurs's Latest Performance :
The Spurs lead the NBA in 3-point shooting thus far in the season as they went 12 of 19 from long-range versus the Orlando Magic on the road in their last outing while also connecting on 50 of 77 shots, overall, for the game as they built a 20-point lead at the end of the second quarter en route to a huge victory. ”Obviously we had a great night shooting,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said, ”and when you shoot that well it gives you a good chance to win the game.” Marco Belinelli came off the bench and scored 18 points on 7-9 shooting from the floor while DeMar DeRozan and Bryn Forbes added 17 points apiece and the win for San Antonio. ”Everybody was hitting shots. We were moving the ball well with 29 assists,” Forbes said. ”That’s the effort we want night-in and night-out. That’s exactly what we’re looking for.”
Defensively, the Spurs allowed just 38% shooting on the night for a dismal Orlando Magic squad despite the home team making good on 12 three-pointers on a night where is Nikola Vucevic did not suit up while Aaron Gordon ended the game with only 12 points on 4-10 shooting from the field. In all, the Spurs are only a half game behind the Rockets for the first place slot within the Southwest Division of the Western Conference, and will certainly like to get a win in which to keep the pressure on Houston. In all, the Spurs are winners of seven of their last eight home games, overall, and will be facing a Minnesota Timberwolves team that are losers of their last four road games, overall.
How Minnesota Timberwolves & San Antonio Spurs Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Minnesota is 16 – 15 ATS while the OU is 12 – 19
San Antonio is 7 – 14 – 1 ATS while the OU is 18 – 13
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This will be an interesting game in that both teams are certainly trending in different directions, altogether, at this point in the season. On one hand, you have the Minnesota Timberwolves, who have lost four of their last five games, as stated, while also falling to the cellar of their respective division. On the other hand, you also have a San Antonio team that had a slow start to the season, yet has come on lately, particularly at AT&T Center. In all, expect a very competitive and possibly low-scoring affair in this matchup as the Spurs will certainly be looking to not only push the ball, when necessary, but to also focus on their half-court offense which includes Aldridge on the block, as well. Also, look for Minnesota to get back to pushing the ball while giving some love to Towns down low throughout the course of this contest.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: San Antonio Spurs
My reason for the pick :
I will back the Spurs in this matchup as I happen to feel that they have played much better, by far, than the Timberwolves have lately. With that being the case, look for San Antonio to continue their dominance at AT&T Center as they will gain control of this game early while maintaining a lead throughout the course. In all, look for the Spurs to pull out a convincing win over a Minnesota Timberwolves team that has really struggled on both sides of the ball recently, particularly on the offensive end.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
While I happen to believe that both teams, particularly the home team, will put some points on the board in this matchup, I also expect the under to also be the strong play as it has been the result in the majority of games for both teams that will be taking the court on this night. In all, San Antonio is slowly beginning to become a much better defensive unit while Minnesota certainly has the potential to become a much better defensive team if they are able to shore up vulnerabilities that currently exists. Nonetheless, the under will indeed be the strong play in this matchup as one can expect San Antonio to score just enough in which to pick up yet another convincing victory over struggling Minnesota team.
