Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Dallas Mavericks vs OKC Thunder
The struggling Dallas Mavericks will travel to Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to battle the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday night at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Mavericks continue to struggle on the road as they have lost six straight games, with their last being versus the New Orleans Pelicans as they relinquished an 11-point halftime lead while being outscored 59 – 46 in the second half en route to there seventh loss in eight games, overall.
On the other hand, the Oklahoma City Thunder were able to halt a two-game losing streak in their last outing versus the Phoenix Suns on the road as Russell Westbrook took over the scoring due to an injured Paul George as he ended the game with 40 points to lead the team while Dennis Schroder also chipped in 20 points for the Thunder as well. Nonetheless, the Mavericks are 22 – 10 – 1 against the spread in the last 33 meetings at Chesapeake Energy Arena. On the other hand, the over has been the play in the last 4 meetings in Oklahoma City amongst these two teams.
Dallas Mavericks's Latest Performance :
The awful play for the Mavericks continued in their last outing versus the New Orleans Hornets as they lost yet another road contest due to their inability to play consistent team defense. In fact, the 114 points scored by the New Orleans Pelicans was the lowest output for opponents versus the Pelicans in their last 7 games, overall. In other words, the Mavericks have allowed opponents to score at least 120 points in five of their last seven games, total.
Versus the Pelicans, the defense certainly clamped down in allowing New Orleans to connect on just 4 of 23 three-point attempts while the team shot 43% for the night as Anthony Davis had a monster game with 40 points along with 17 rebounds and four assists. On the other hand, Luka Doncic along with Harrison Barnes led the team with 34 and 20 points, respectively, while DeAndre Jordan added nine points along with 16 rebounds as Davis hit a fall-away jumper with only 40 seconds remaining in which two complete a three-point play while also giving the Pelicans a two-point lead that they would never relinquish. Jordan along with Wesley Matthews are both uncertainly to play in this contest due to injury.
Interestingly enough, four of Dallas’s last five road losses were by five points or less. In all, the team will certainly like to pick up some much-needed confidence and momentum by picking up a when over an Oklahoma City team that recently got back on the right track with a much-needed victory themselves in their last time out.
OKC Thunder's Latest Performance :
During a two-game stretch of play to where the Oklahoma City Thunder were averaging a tad under 110 points per game, a normally solid defensive unit for the Thunder were also allowing opponents score 114 points on average during this time. Nonetheless, Oklahoma City was able to ramp up their offensive production in their last outing versus the Phoenix Suns while also illustrating a much better defensive performance in allowing the Suns to score just 102 points on the night.
And despite 25 points from Devin Booker along with 19 from TJ Warren, the Thunder were able to respond with a 40-point night by Russell Westbrook, who also pulled down 12 rebounds while also dishing out eight assists. As stated, Schroeder also chipped in 20 points for Oklahoma City in the win as well while Paul George is currently dealing with a quadricep injury while not being scheduled to suit up for this matchup.
In all, Oklahoma City has won three of their last four games at Chesapeake Energy Arena, yet, came out on the losing end in their last outing versus the Minnesota Timberwolves. Of course, they will certainly like to atone for this loss while also picking up a much-needed victory in the meantime as they are two games out of the top spot within the North West standings of the Western Conference, behind the Denver Nuggets.
How Dallas Mavericks & OKC Thunder Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Dallas is 21 – 13 ATS while the OU is 19 – 15
OKC is 19 – 15 ATS while the OU is 16 – 18
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This will be an interesting matchup as Dallas will be looking to somehow pull out a victory on the road verses an Oklahoma City team that will look to rely on the services of Russell Westbrook in which to compensate for a lack of offensive production from Paul George, who continues to battle hamstring issues, as stated. In all, look for both teams to push the pace in this contest while Dallas will also be looking to better establish themselves on the defensive end, albeit with Jordan, versus an Oklahoma City squad that, as we know, can potentially be very dangerous on the offensive side of the ball.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Oklahoma City Thunder
My reason for the pick :
While I happen to believe that Dallas will attempt to keep keep this game competitive throughout, I will back the Oklahoma City Thunder to come out with a huge victory in this contest on Monday night as they will pick up their second win in as many games. Also, Westbrook came out of an offensive funk in his last outing and will certainly use this as a carry-over effect in this matchup versus a struggling Mavericks team. In all, I expect for Oklahoma City to maintain control of the pace for this matchup while cruising to victory over a Mavericks team that has had a disastrous set of road games recently.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over
My reason for the prediction :
The over has been the play in three of the last four home games for the Oklahoma City Thunder while has also been the result in four of the last five games on the road for the Dallas Mavericks. One should certainly expect Oklahoma City to benefit immensely from their ability to push the ball early and often on a Dallas Mavericks team that simply does not have it on the defensive end at this point in the season. With that being the case, the under is indeed the strong play for this matchup as the scoreboard will swell in favor of the home team in the end.
