Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Memphis Grizzlies vs Houston Rockets

The Memphis Grizzlies will visit the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, to battle the Houston Rockets on Monday night at 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Houston continues to heat up on the season and have now found themselves in the top spot within the Southwest Division of the Western Conference as they are a full two games ahead of the San Antonio Spurs after picking up a win on the road versus the New Orleans Pelicans in their last time out has James Harden posted 41 points on the night en route to the victory.

The Memphis Grizzlies had begun to find a bit of momentum after winning two straight games; However, they were brought down to earth in their last outing versus the Boston Celtics as they were not able to maintain a 17-point lead at the halftime break while also allowing the Celtics to outscore them 65 – 39 in the 2nd half as they are losers of  three of their last five home games, overall. The under has been the play in 26 of the last 37 meetings amongst these two teams at Toyota Center while the Grizzlies are just 2-5 against the spread in the last seven meetings, overall, versus the Houston Rockets.

Memphis Grizzlies's Latest Performance :

Memphis has eclipse the 100 point mark only twice in their last 10 games, total. Fortunately, they were able to achieve this goal in their last outing versus the Boston Celtics;  However, they also allowed the Celtics to score 112 points while connecting on 16 3-pointers while shooting 50% from the floor as they halted a two game winning streak with the loss in their last time out.  Both teams committed their fair share of turnovers as the Celtics finished with 17 on the night while the Grizzlies had 16 turnovers of their own; Nonetheless, Kyrie Irving was certainly the man of the hour as he pumped in 26 points along with 13 assists for Boston while Marcus Morris also went 4-9 from long range while having 22 points for a Celtics team that also got 18 points along with six rebounds from Al Horford.

Mike Conley went 1-9 from three-point range for the Grizzlies while ending with 29 points to lead the team as he also had five rebounds along with six assists.  Marc Gasol had 15 points along with 10 rebounds as well while Dillon Brooks also came off the bench in which to score 19 points for Memphis, however, the Grizzlies simply could not get any additional offense from other players, in general, as they suffered the loss. They now look to challenge a Houston team that has done well in preventing teams from becoming efficient from the floor during their current winning streak.

Houston Rockets's Latest Performance :

James Harden led his team to yet another victory on the season as the Rockets have won nine of their last 10 games, overall, after the shooting guard posted 41 points along with six assists to become the first player the score 35 points and at least five assists in seven consecutive games as they edged the New Orleans Pelicans on the road in their last time out. ”That’s what I play for,” Harden said when asked about being compared to the Big O. ”That’s what you play the game of basketball for, to be mentioned in the name with the greats. Obviously, I have a long way to go, but that’s what I put my jersey on for, that’s what I lace my shoes up for, to go out there and be the best that I can be and when it’s all said and done, be mentioned as one of the best basketball players to ever touch a basketball.”

Furthermore, Harden had 26 points in the first half alone as he was good on seven 3-point attempts while also making 14 free throws in the matchup as well.  Eric Gordon also chipped in 21 points for the Rockets in their win versus the Pelicans as they were able to hit some critical baskets down the stretch in which to pull out a much-needed victory, their fourth straight.

Houston comes into this game versus the Memphis Grizzlies with some confidence as they were able to pick up a victory over the Grizzlies on December 15th. With that being said, they continue to lead with their defense as they are allowing opponents to score a tad less than 110 points in their last five games, overall.

How Memphis Grizzlies & Houston Rockets Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Memphis is 17-18 ATS while the OU is  16 – 20

Houston is 17 – 17 – 1 ATS while the OU is  19 – 16

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will be an interesting match-up in that the Grizzlies will be looking to get back on track after a loss in their last outing versus a Houston team that will be looking to continue their present confidence and momentum, altogether. Look for the Rockets to push the pace in this contest and they will be looking to challenge the resolve of a Memphis defense that continues to be be ranked as one of the best in the league, however, does not possess the overall offensive prowess in which to maintain an edge over their opponents in 2018.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Houston Rockets

My reason for the pick :

The Rockets  have won seven straight home games and will certainly pick up a victory over a dismal offensive team for Memphis on Monday. As stated, the Grizzlies remain to be one of the more solid defensive teams in the league, however, they have shown no semblance of offense aside from Conley throughout the season. Gasol  continues to struggle on the block while the Grizzlies will find their fair share of issues looking to score consistently on a Houston team that has been resurgent on this end of the floor lately.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the under in this matchup as I see the Memphis Grizzlies struggling, once again, versus a Houston team that has only allowed opponents to score an average of 108 points in their last five outings. Combine this with the fact that the under has been the play in four of the last seven  home games for the Houston Rockets along with being the result in four of the last five games on the road for the Memphis Grizzlies, the under will indeed be the strong play in this matchup as well in what will be a very exciting game amongst teams that continue to impress on the defensive end.
