Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Orlando Magic vs Charlotte Hornets

The Charlotte Hornets will return home to Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina for a two-game home stand beginning with a contest vs Orlando Magic on Monday night at 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Hornets are fresh off of a stretch of play to which they were only winners in one of four games as they sunk to a new low in losing to the Washington Wizards on the road in their last outing as they committed 16 turnovers for the game while also allowing the Washington Wizards to post 35 assists, thus dropping their third straight road game.

On the other hand, the Orlando Magic halted a four-game losing streak by picking up a win at home over the Toronto Raptors as Nikola Vucevic led the team with 30 points and 20 boards as the Magic cruised to victory in blowout fashion while holding the Raptors to only 29% shooting from the floor. The Magic, however, are 0-5 against the spread in the last five meetings at Spectrum Center while also being just 8 of 20 against the spread in the last 28 meetings, overall, versus the Hornets.

Orlando Magic's Latest Performance :

In going 1-4 in their last five games, the Orlando Magic failed to reach the century mark in three of those outings, In their last two games, however, the Magic have certainly revved things up a bit on the offensive end as they are averaging 118 points during this time.  The problem is that they allowed Phoenix to put up 122 points in their prior outing in an overtime thriller which saw Orlando suffer the heartbreaking loss. The Magic were determined not to allow this to happen again as they allowed the Toronto Raptors to score only 87 points for the game while posting 116 points in what was their first win in five outings.

DJ Augustin chipped in 17 points along with dishing out seven assists for the Magic while Aaron Gordon was only 3-6 from the floor while ending with 9 points total. The Magic will certainly be looking to begin game 1 of a four-game road trip on a positive note, however, this game will be a second of a back-to-back for the Magic after taking on the Detroit Pistons at home. With that being the case, look for the Magic  to exert themselves on the offensive end early versus a Charlotte team that continues to be up and down defensively.

Charlotte Hornets 's Latest Performance :

The Charlotte Hornets have simply been up and down on both sides of the floor lately as they fell to the lowly Washington Wizards in their last outing, as stated, behind 47 points from Kemba Walker who went 6-9 from three-point range while scoring 24 points in the fourth quarter which almost allowed Charlotte to come-from-behind and pick up the victory. Nicholas Batum also added 17 points for the Hornets, who lost their 7th game in 11 outings while also allowing at least 130 points in consecutive road games.”It wasn’t enough offense,” Walker said. ”The defense is usually what gets teams over the top. It gets us over the top. That’s when we’re at our best … tonight it wasn’t it.”

With that being the case, the Hornets are allowing teams to score 112 points while also permitting them to shoot at a 47% clip from the floor on a nightly basis in 2018. In fact, during their four-game skid, the Hornets are allowing teams to average 121 points per game. They certainly need to show a much more commitment on the defensive end of the floor moving forward as they will now be facing an Orlando team that gained a ton of confidence in their last outing versus the Toronto Raptors at home as they picked up a huge blowout to where the team shot 47% from the floor while  Vucevic came out of a funk in which to post 30 points along with 20 rebounds, as stated, en route to a much-needed victory.

How Orlando Magic & Charlotte Hornets Matchup.

Orlando is 18 – 16 ATS while the OU is 13 – 21

Charlotte is 18 – 17 ATS while the OU is  19 – 16

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will  certainly be an interesting matchup in that the Magic will like to continue their success while extending  the momentum received from picking up an all important victory in their last outing versus the Raptors. On the other hand, Charlotte will also be looking to right the ship, so to speak, as they have certainly  fallen on hard times recently. Fortunately for Charlotte, they are winners of four of their last six home games while the magic have lost their last two road games by an average of 17 points per game.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:   Charlotte Hornets

My reason for the pick :

I will back the Hornets in this matchup as the Orlando Magic have simply not performed well enough on either side of the ball in which to back at this point. As stated, Orlando has not performed well on the road either recently as each of their last two road losses were by double digits. It is for this reason that the Charlotte Hornets will indeed get back on track by picking up some much-needed confidence and momentum moving forward as they will get the win over a lifeless magic  team on Monday afternoon.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

And while Charlotte may be attempting to come out of a funk on the offensive end of the floor, look for their defense to have a solid night versus a Magic offense that continues to struggle. Of course,Vucevic  will certainly bring some offensive production to the table for Orlando, however, Gordon continues to struggle on the year while the Magic are shooting only 43% from the floor on the year while averaging just 103 points. With that being the case, look for the under to be the strong play in this matchup as I do not see the Magic having a very productive night on offense.
